Most Consistent batsmen.

In terms of consistency, hardly anyone is near Gautam Gambhir. The guy is in the form of his life (Averages quite close to 100 in Tests in the past 12 months)! And what's more important, he's equally fluent in all three forms of the game. A gun of a player, really!

What's also cool is that he averages over 50 both in and outside India. That's pretty neat.

Gambhir, in recent times.

Never mind, I was er...a little late.

Last two years Gambhir averaged 70 in 2008 with 3 centuries and 90.88 in 2009 with 4 centuries.

Really impressive considering he barely played in 2007 and was a below par player before that with just the 1 century.

I really want to see Gambhir get tested on Australian, English and South African pitches. Want to see if he can translate his success onto these kind of pitches too.

I'm guessing you don't understand sarcasm Avroneel...

Sarcasm? Sorry, where was the sarcasm?

;)

Gautam Gambhir's improved ridiculously over the last 2 years. He has to be the most improved cricketer in World Cricket atm. AB De Villiers and Michael Clarke push him, but I'd say Gambhir's the most improved. He's averaging 54 and that's still rising, it's mad. He has only had 1 Test series outside the subcontinent though, and that was against a fairly weak New Zealand side. He still put the runs on the board though, and that's all you can ask for. Class player, just be interesting to see how he copes in Test series in South Africa, England and Australia, as Leggie mentioned.

Chris Gayle has been one of the most consistent ODI batsman since 2000. He is #8 in runs scored since 2000 but all the batsman in front of him have played more matches. Averages 41 with a strike rate of 83 and 19 centuries.

I am sorry but what form of the game are we talking about here and what time frame? I'm just bemused at the Hussey nominations, done nothing in Test cricket since India and it has only been the Champions Trophy and Indian tour where he has done anything in ODI's before that he was out of form bad.

Michael Clarke would be Australia's most consistant over the last 12 months in tests.

I think Gambhir will do well even in places like Australia, South Africa and England. He is very comfortable against both pace and bounce. His backfoot play is very good and he has a very good pull/hook and cut. And he loves spinners and gets really aggressive against them. He has done really well in the ODI's in Australia (CB series). More importantly, he is a guy for the big hundreds and has lot of patience to stay at the crease. So even if he goes through a bad patch, he has the goods to bounce out of it soon enough.

Yep, like Sai has mentioned Gambhir has performed around the world in OD cricket. He scored big tons in the CB Series down under and was a prolific performer in the T20 in South Africa.

He's a big innings player. No doubt he will become a legend of Indian, and perhaps world cricket.
