A good performance by New Zealand on day 1, but I dont think their batsman were playing in test match mode apart from Mark Richardson. He was unlucky to be given out LBW, as he clearly got an inside edge.
Stephen Fleming looked very shaky and did not last too long, being dismissed for 34, when Andrew Strauss took his first catch in test cricket. Nathan Astle then played a quickfire 64 of 77 balls, but I thought he should have converted that to a big one. Good ball from Flintoff to dismiss him though. And after than England staged a comeback, with Jones dismissing Styris, and Hoggard dismissing McMillan.

Mark Richardson played a well battled innings, not very entertaining, but a very useful innings. Like I said earlier, he was unlucky to be given out LBW to Steve Harmison.

As it stands now, the match is pretty much evenly poised. Though i think NZ have the slight edge. Should be interesting test match. Remember, the third place in the ICC Test Rankings is for grabs.

England will want to dismiss Oram as quickly as possible tomorrow, otherwise he might take the game away from England.

Only got to watch the highlights and last 7 overs live on TV but Oram looks a very handy player!

Very important 2nd day for England coming up.

What an entertaining knock from Chris Cairns! Congratulations for hitting the most number of sixes in test cricket!

But 386 is not big a score, on what is a good batting wicket at Lords.

Congratulations to Andrew Strauss for scoring a century on debut. The future is really very bright for England. One of the best sides in Test Cricket.

Go England!!

McMullum puts New Zealand in a better position. And good batting and support from Richardson... :) Hopefully, New Zealand can get a big score tomorrow to put pressure on England.

England only need about 275 runs more to win the first test tomorrow.... Richardson gets a century, but McCullum just misses out at 96. :( New Zealand reallly need Bond now.... Their pace attack isn't threatning England at all...
