Sidebottom, Smith and Swann take it to Yorkshire
Yorkshire's First Innings
Nottinghamshire really needed an early wicket of some sort to get them going, but not when the first ball went for four byes, and the second was a wide.
Sayers and Wood were battling out the fine bowling of Sidebottom and Smith, who were bowling with pinpoint accuracy. There were few loose deliveries, but if there were any, they were punished.
Finally, however, after facing 57 balls, and making a measly 11, Sayers nicked it to Bicknell, standing in at 2nd slip. The Notts players were ecstatic!
Wood followed him in the next over, edging to slip again, for a well played 35, of 57 deliveries.
Up came Vaughan, who was battling long and hard for his runs, which tallyed to a mammoth 3 when he got a snick behind off Sidebottom, which was sharply snapped up by Chris Read.
Sidebottom was on a role, he had 2 out of the 3 wickets down, and had first ball at new batsmen, the dangerous Mcgrath. But Sidebottom did not care for his runs scored last season, chucked in a rapid yorker and cleaned him up first ball! It was now Yorkshires time to regroup. The atmosphere in the crowd was hotting up, and now Yorkshire were 60-3.
Up steps the Australian Lehman, and he had the task of fending out Sidebottoms hat trick ball.
Sidebottom sent down another peach, on the line of off stump, full. Lehman plays, catches the edge... and Bicknell drops it...
The crowd cannot believe it, Fleming cannot believe it, and Sidebottom is shaking.
It is not long, in fact one more run added, until Lehman is gone. Swann was brought into the attack and had immediate effect, sending Lehman back to the pavillion. Chucking a quicker arm ball down, Lehman happily flicked it into short legs hands, and he was on his way! The fans are wetting themselves!
66-4
However, it is not that the runs started to clog up, and ball after ball was either left alone or defended. Gale and Guy came in together, and said to eachother, 'We are in a dire situation here, we look to stay in until the end of play', which was picked up on stump mic. 77 balls they used up together, nearly 13 overs, of which 28 runs were scored.
The end of day 1:
There was absoulutely nothing to write home about since the eve of day 1, and the start of day 2, until Guy played a lazy shot, got a snick, and Read did the rest.
(Sorry about no screenshots here, FRAPS was playing up)
From 66-4, it became 100-5.
The last 5 batsmen did their job tremendously, Lawson taking 80 balls to make 12. The most boring part of the game so far. Fans were getting up and leaving, some were hurling abuse at Lawson, even their own fans!
However, the tail was eventually wrapped up, but managed to get the score to 176. The Notts bowlers could not finish off the job.
It did not help that over 4 catches were dropped...
Swann and Smith picked up 3 apiece, while the inspired Sidebottom took 4.
You can see why I found it extremely tedious at times!
When I start my next innings with Notts, I will be using Tutsi's new V5 patch, so please be aware, the balls seem like they are coming down like bullets now!
Dont forget, I still need one more participater in the two activities!
I have just started on Notts second innings, and lets just say this. The batting has not improved
A few overs have gone, and as many wickets are down! Notts are staring defeat in the face now.
Im sorry for not being too good at batting in this game, but I guess this thread is more about entertaining you lot, rather than seeing how good/ bad I am!
Without Tutsis patch, I'd be scoring huge scores, and it would be very boring.
With it, im lucky to be hitting 100! :P
