Cook's dismissal was pretty soft.

Every Cook dismissal is very soft to be honest. Really starting to worry about him as we don't want a lame duck come the first test. Sets the completely wrong tone to be 10/1 after a few overs.

Well Ferguson goes for 35 from only 45 balls: caught Broad bowled Finn. Miscued pull shot to mid-on apparently. That may be his outside chance at an Ashes spot gone. Although Usman and Hughes didn't do much either in the Blues first innings. Makes it even more ridiculous that the Gabba squad is named before the next round of matches. No chance for these fringe guys to make a statement. They've had one innings basically, as I doubt Ferguson bats again in this match.

Yeah, you don't need to see the footage to know exactly how he got out. Yet somehow, he makes runs.

Miss the days when batsmen would step up and grab the spot like Hughes did a few years back. What is the world coming to, the English are going well in a tour match!

I think it's fair to say now that aussie state sides are extremely average now. The top english county sides would absolutely murder them and I can't remember the last time a touring side handled their warm up matches so comfortably, noting that even sides that have won test series while touring still got whipped by the state sides.

I don't think you can say that at all to be fair especially just on the result of this match. S.A are hardly the best Aussie team.

NSW still look pretty imposing...

Haaa, way off the mark sir. Although sides like S Australia have declined with the likes of Lehmann, Blewett, Gillespie retired, Tait no longer can play FC cricket. While QSL golden era players like Law, Maher, Joe Dawes, Bichel, Dale, Kasprowicz, Watson changing states, Hayden.

But the other 4 states are still very solid. You look at the current NSW vs VIC game & no two English counties can put together teams so strong.

Yeah the states are still good. As you say, county sides would be falling over themselves to have the NSW 2nd XI as their main side. Could see it in the Champions League too, the Aussie sides obviously rate very highly when compared to the rest of the world.

I wouldn't go that far. If you were to take last years fulls strength Nottinghamshire side they'd compete very nicely in the State Shield let alone vs X1.

OK yes I'm exagerrating a little :D It's a bit easier to stock talent when there are only 6 state sides as opposed to 18 counties.

The nature of domestic cricket in Australia is that the depth of a state such as NSW should inevitably wash out to feed demand from other states.

However, at the moment that process seems to have slowed down a bit. There are a lot of players hanging on as limited overs specialists; most are senior players, but someone like David Warner should have moved on to get a first class spot. Likewise, we've seen WA and SA actually let go of Chris Rogers and Mark Cosgrove.

Dam bad light has stopped play and possibly Ferguson chance of forcing him way into the side. Although with Clarke under an injury cloud he might get in the squad.

Now thats what I wanted to see. Shock and horror but Cook got runs as well. I'd love if he miraculously comes into the best form of his life.
