Michael Holding

Two words: Whispering Death.

Arguably the bowler with the best record for West Indies at World Cups, Holding played an instrumental role in them lifting the trophy in 1979 and also finishing as runners up in the subsequent tournament.

His opening partnership with Andy Roberts constituted the deadliest attack in the world and he tormented batsmen with his fearsomely silent bowling action and express pace.

During the campaign that crowned his side World Champions, he took 8 wickets at a tournament best average at 13.25.

Currently re-watching the three part documentary Sky Sports did last year on Michael Holding, Whispering Death: The Michael Holding Story. No mention of his World Cup performances but nevertheless great watch I recommend it to everyone. Giant of the game on and off the cricket pitch! For me the modern voice of cricket.

Courtney A Walsh​

The first bowler to bowl 5000 overs in Test Cricket and reach the 500 wickets mark in Tests, Courtney Walsh's easy approach to the bowling creasing, coupled with an impressive discipline and the ability to swing the ball both ways doesn't have to make us wonder why the great man was so successful.
His ODI career was not as remarkable as his Test career, though he picked 227 wickets in 202 matches at an average of 30 , his world cup stats are quite good with 27 wickets in 8 matches with an average of 20.26 to be part of my XI.

Brian Charles Lara

Brian Lara also known as 'The Prince' is one of the greatest batsman of all time. Since Sir Don Bradman no one has scored as massive runs as he did. Lara holds the record for the highest score in International Cricket of 400*. Only player in the history of Cricket to have scored a century, a double century, a triple century, a quadruple century and quintuple century. Lara has won a no. of games for his side.

Brian Lara played 5 World Cups (1992, 1996, 1999, 2003, 2007). In his first ever World Cup match, Lara opened the batting and scored an unbeaten 88* before getting retired hurt. He scored 3 fifties in that WC. Lara's best performance in 1996 WC came against South Africa in a Quarter-Final match. Where he scored 111 of 96 balls. Sadly he couldn't perform in 1999 WC as his highest score was just 36. 2003 WC came where Lara redeemed himself and scored 116 in the opening game against South Africa. In 2007 WC which was his last WC Lara's best performance came against Australia when he scored 77 in a chasing game.

Lara hasn't performed like Viv Richards did. But he has scored crucial runs for his side in WC games.​
