Glenn Turner

One of the prolific batsman for New Zealand, he is the only New Zealand batsman to score 100 FC tons in history. A solid opening batsman, he is well known for his heroics in 1975 world cup where he was the highest run getter in the tournament in which he scored 333 runs in from 4 matches that includes 2 tons. His highest in WC being 171* against East Africa.

Though he continued his excellent performances in 1979 WC in which he scored 176 runs from 4 matches he was the highest run getter for New Zealand and 4th highest in the tournament. He has represented New Zealand in 3 World Cups i.e, 1975, 1979, 1983.

Glenn Turner is also the first to score an ODI 150 as well as world cup 150 and also holds the record for the only batsman in ODI history to have faced over 200 deliveries which was later broken by Rohit Sharma.

He will be my opening batsman, one of the best openers for New Zealand in WC.

Turner is an excellent choice. Wonderful opener for NZ and surely one of their best WC players. He can bat through the innings which is always great and needed for an opener.

Re your Dravid as a wk pick. Dravid's WC stats as a keeper only will be considered here. He has tremendous avg as a keeper in WC which is over 70 but that is inflated with 5 not outs in 11 inns. Also to let you know, Dravid batted at number 3 only once as a keeper in the WCs. And he scored 145 against SL in that match. Other than that most of his runs as a keeper batsman in WCs have come at 5.

What does this suppose to mean? His Average as a Wicket Keeper will only be counted?

Sir Richard Hadlee

richard-hadlee-800x540.jpg

Richard Hadlee made life hard for even the greatest batsmen of his era and his performances during the 1983 World Cup are a great example of this.

If it weren't for the unfortunate ankle injury that side-lined him during the 1987 World Cup, New Zealand's greatest ever player might have been a front-runner for an early pick in this draft, such was his dominance throughout the 80s period.

Nevertheless he makes my list due to his impressive performances with the ball during the 1983 Prudential World Cup in a tournament where New Zealand were a big let down with the bat.
Highlights of the devastation of his raw pace and destruction include his 3/20 against Pakistan, devastating figures of 5/25 against Sri Lanka and 3/32 against England. Although New Zealand failed to progress to the semi-finals, he finished with 14 wickets at 12.85, the best bowling average of the tournament.

World Cup Record:

Matches: 13
Innings: 13
Overs: 146.1
Runs: 421
Wickets: 22
Best: 5/25
Average: 19.13
Economy: 2.88
Strike Rate: 39.8

Geoff Allott

Geoffery Ian Allot. Potentially one of the greatest pacers of the late 90s. Unfortunately, he continually had back injuries mostly throughout his career and was forced to leave Cricket. In his rather short career, he didn't let these injuries bog him down. He played 66 List A and which he took 95 wickets at an impressive average of 23.

He only featured in one World Cup of 1999 and that was the greatest thing happened to him. The 10th match of 1999 WC. Allot rolled over the mighty Australian batting line-up for just 213 runs. Helping his team win by 5 wickets and writing 4 wickets to his name. There was another game against Pakistan where he also took 4 wickets but unfortunately, kiwis lost that game. 3/30 against Bangladesh, 3/15 against Scotland and 3/24 against Zimbabwe. His consistency and habit of picking up wickets brought his team into the Semi-Finals where they lost the match and was the only occasion where Allot couldn't pick up a wicket. He was the Highest wicket taker of 1999 World Cup, sending 20 batsmen to the pavilion and his bowling average of 16.25 was Unbelievable!

He also held an interesting record with the bat for the longest time taken to get off the mark and get out on duck in Test Cricket.

WC Bowling Summary

Matches: 9

Wasim Akram

A Legend. Arguably the greatest fast bowler in the history of Cricket and the greatest left-arm fast bowler. Wasim Akmran also was known as the "Swing Ka Sultan" was a sensation. Holding the record for most wickets (881) in list A that too at an average of 21.91 tells the level of skill and game this man had. He could make the ball talk and move the ball both ways like no one else could. His speed, accuracy, swing and on top of that the reverse swing. A living nightmare for the batsmen.

He was the first bowler to reach 500 ODI wickets. Wisdom ranked him as the best fast bowler ever. Wasim took 17 four wickets-haul and 6 five wickets-haul in ODIs. His best ODI figures were 5/15.

His World Cup matches performance is terrific to say the list. He played 5 World Cups. 1987, 1992, 1996, 1999 and 2003. His best performance in 1987 WC was 3/45 against great West Indies. Didn't perform that well as per his standards but took the 1992 WC by storm. He took 18 wickets in that WC. 4/32 vs New Zealand was his best Group matches performance. Pakistan was through to the Final of that WC. Wasim bowled that magical spell vs England in the Final and won the World Cup for his side, ending with 3/45. 1996 WC came didn't perform consistently enough 3/23 vs Scotland was his best figures. But in 1999 WC Wasim lead Pakistan to final of 1999 with his captaincy and bowling. He took 4 wickets in the group match against Australia. unfortunately, Pakistan couldn't repeat 1992 performances in the Final. 2003 WC was his last WC and was also decline of his career and plans for retirement. He took 3 wickets twice and one 5 wicket-haul vs Nambia.

He is no noob with bat. Can be considered a bowling AR. He has 3 test and 7 first-class centuries and many 50s. He hit 257* against Zimbabwe in 1996 test series. Beware!

WC Bowling Summary

Javed Miandad

Javed-Miandad-Kiran-More.jpg

An integral part of Pakistan's triumphant 1992 campaign, Miandad is the greatest batsman they have ever produced.

Javed Miandad's fascinating journey in international cricket has been almost inextricably linked with the World Cup. He kickstarted it playing his debut ODI match in the first ever edition of the tournament in 1975 and drew curtains on a tremendous career at the 1996 World Cup.
All in all, he has featured in a total of six World Cups, being the only one of two to have done so.

Without doubt the most memorable of these was the role he played in the 1992 World Cup-winning Pakistan side. In the lead up to, and including, the final he scored a total of six half centuries and in his role as second in command to Imran Khan he was pivotal to a captaincy partnership that took Pakistan all the way to cricket's greatest prize that had been eluding them both for 17 years of agonising near misses.

World Cup Record:

Played: 33
Innings: 30
Runs: 1083
High Score: 103
Average: 43.32
Strike Rate: 68.02
Centuries: 1

What I'm supposed to do? Change his batting position? Dravid wasn't a regular keeper to consider his stats as WKB. It was Ganguly who asked him to keep wickets so that he could play 7 batsmen in the lineup.

But you selecting him as a wkb means his stats as a wkb will only be considered which are actually pretty good. You should put him at 5 if you are playing him as a wkb tbh. But then again it is your XI and you call the shots! If you want him at 3, you can keep him there.

And wow, now that we are mid way sort of all the teams have started looking great. Great picks in Allot, Akram and Miandad. Well done people!

Can you please help me with the website that gives the analysis of players as per their batting order in WCs?
