Okay we had these some 5-6 years ago on this site and it was real fun then so let's see if these are popular now. As the world cup is near why not have a world cup draft! We had one earlier and it was super awesome. This is just for fun and also to learn a bit more about cricket world cup history and the players we might not know. I will need around 8 to 10 people who can make their picks.

The aim is to get the best XI of the world cup history. So, only world cup performances of the players will matter here. There will be a limit of one player per country till the last round to make it more interesting. A player must have played at least 3 world cup matches to qualify. When you make a pick, try and add his pics and a little writeup as to why you picked him and maybe also highlight his special world cup moments. There will be a 24 hour time limit for each pick.

We will have 11 rounds in all, one player per round. In the last round you can pick a player from any country from the remaining ones.

This will be an ordered draft. I will let you know the order once we have the signups. You will need to do a lot of research too and then pick. That is the best thing about this. Make sure you have a balanced XI! One wicket keeper is a must, and his batting stats as a wicket keeper only will count. Players in their correct batting positions will earn you more points too. Maybe we can also have a virtual sim league at the end to determine who picked the best side!

I have put the order, remember one pick at a time and only pick when it is your turn. This won't be a like a draft in the cricket leagues. This will be a slow and steady thing. Make sure you put your best effort in the writeups and mention WC stats of the player so that we know why you picked a particular player. I have tried to be fair to everyone in that order which is random at the odd round and then follows snake order for the even ones.

@Kumbis you can get us started with the first Australian player!

Adam Gilchrist, after his 'Hurricane' knock against Srilanka in the 2007WC final.

    Adam Gilchrist
The Aggressor, Risk taker, Demon Slogger those names are not enough for this Australian cricket rockstar. Gilly is my opening wicketkeeper batsman. The way he smashed opening bowlers in the past is the most murderous sloggfest! I take him in my team for quick starts, proper balance and wicketkeeping. Gilly was the Rockstar for Australia in the finals. Churchy has played in three World Cups for Australia, and each time the side has won the tournament. The main aim of Adam Gilchrist in all world cup matches is to use batting powerplay. In the 1999 final, against Pakistan, Gilchrist scor-
-ed 54 from 36 balls. The way he treated Shoaib Akhtar in the final was great to see as a cricket fan. I still remember that upper cut he played against Shoaib Akhar in the 1999 WC final. In the 2003 final against India, he scored 57 from 48 balls, which was enough for demoralizing young Indian bowlers and foundation to built a mamouth score. In 2007 WC, Gilchrist scored 149 off 104 against Sri Lanka in the final thrashing Srilankan triumph cards Chaminda Vass and Muttaih Murali-
-tharan with disdane. Gilchrist's 149 is the highest score in a World Cup final. Gilly also hold the record for most catches by a wicket-keeper in a single World Cup and 8 sixes in an innings.

Adam Gilchrist's records in the World Cup :

    M: 31
    Runs: 1,085 @ 36.16
    SR : 98.01
    HS: 149
    MotM: 12

    Ricky Ponting
No Indian can forget that 140 runs not out innings by Ponting in the 2003 WC final. He broke over a billion hearts that day. What a batsman! He is the highest run scorer for Australia in the world cups with over 1700 runs and only next to Sachin Tendulkar in the most runs chart in the world cups. He has 5 centuries in the world cups and again only Sachin has more (6). What makes Ricky Ponting even more special is his captaincy. He is the best captain ever in the world cup history which is evident from the fact that he has lost only 2 matches of the 29 he has captained. A win percentage of over 90 is something no other captain has been able to achieve! A very safe pair of hands and a live wire on the field. Ricky Ponting walks into my All time WC XI at number 3. He is also my captain!

    M: 46
    Inns: 42
    NO: 4
    Runs: 1743 @ 45.86
    HS: 140*
    50s: 6, 100s: 5
    MotM: 3
