I love the drafts that people have come with and I was thinking, what would be another cool draft. So I came up with One per decade draft. What does this mean?

Hopefully the rules can explain it better.

  • You can only draft one player on your team from one decade
  • One decade is a period of 10 year, to keep it simple here is how the decades will be broken up as examples:
    • 1890-1899 1890s
    • 1900-1909 1900s
    • 1970-1979 1970s
    • (i'm sure you can figure out the rest)
  • So, you can pick only players who have played test matches during one decade.
    • Meaning if a player played his first match in 1989 and his final match in 1990. He is ineligible for selection because according to the dates he has crossed decades
  • I want to only have a maximum of 6 users for this draft, including myself. (this is my first time doing a draft, so i want to make sure everything is organized and if I do another draft, i can open it up to more people)
  • As per usual, there is a 24 hour limit for picking
I hope you guys understand the rules and if there are any questions, I'd be more than happy to answer.

Its like you read my mind, I was thinking of starting the same next based on a former league theme of mine. :p

In, although I’m curious as to whether players will have their overall stats taken into account or just stats acquired during a particular decade?

The latter would give people incentives to pick a certain player from what one could call their dominant decade, such as Sachin Tendulkar averaging 58.00 in the 90s at his peak compared to 35.83 in the 80s as a prodigy, 53.20 in the 2000s and 50.01 during the 2010s thanks to one outstanding year which otherwise masked his struggles during the final phase of his career.

So the point is to have their overall stats into account.. however for this draft players like Sachin would not be eligible since he has played in multiple "decades"

Sachin's first test was in 1989 and last test was in 2013 - so that's 4-decades as per the rules of this he would not be eligible to be picked by anyone

A player such as Martyn Moxon, however would be eligible since he played his first test in 1986 and last test in 1989, so as a player of the 1980s someone can pick him on their team. You can and are encouraged to consider their First Class career stats when picking players, rather than simply relying on the Test stats.

I hope that made it a little more clear, I am thrilled to have you in this draft!

I thought so! Also keep in mind you can only pick one player per decade... So you can't have two players from the 1990s in the same team

So before I take my first go, let me check I understand this right...

I have to pick a player that only featured in one decade, e.g. debut and last test both in the same decade?

And moreover I can only pick one such player from each decade?

Since I have the next pick I will go with Bob Cowper active in test from 1964-1968 so he's my pick from the 1960s

Stats|Matches|Runs|HS|Batting Ave|100s/50s
First-Class |147|14,915|307|53.78|26/58
Test |27|2061|307|46.84|5/10
Here is his bio from cricinfo:

"A stockbroker and merchant banker too intelligent and ambitious to linger long in a game offering such modest financial rewards, Bob Cowper renounced Test cricket at 28, though not before he had built an impressive portfolio of achievement as a left-hand batsman and finger-spinner. His 12-hour 307 against England at Melbourne in February 1966 was the highest Test innings and the only triple-century on Australian soil until Matthew Hayden's 380 in 2003-04. His fertile cricket imagination and sense of injustice at the lot of the average Australian cricketer left a strong impression on Ian Chappell, in time a militant campaigner for the rights of his comrades."

@Bevab go ahead with your next pick
