Planetcricket Awards 2008 Results - Day 1

awards2008.png
Time for the first of the results in the 2008 PlanetCricket Awards in association with Codemasters, good luck to all those nominated.

Prizes will be allocated after the results have been announced. Members who win the 'top' awards will have first choice of the prizes.

We start off with Funniest Member, Best Avatar and Best Sub-Forum.

There were seven members nominated in the category of Funniest Member, the award for the member who made us all laugh over the last year. The top three with percentages of total votes cast were as follows:

  • tassietiger - 32.6%
  • Kev - 15.1%
  • evertonfan and scion_sid [Tie] - 12.8%
Tassietiger's unique brand of humour has enabled him to keep his title as Funniest Member for another year.

A huge amount of members, 15, were nominated for having the best avatar. Here are the top 3:

  • Highlander999 - 21.6%
  • barmyarmy - 13.5%
  • chetan0304 and Kev [Tie] - 9.5%
Well done to Highlander999 taking a fairly convincing win in a difficult category.

Thirteen of our sub-forums were nominated as the best, but there can only be one winner:
  • Cricket 07 Downloads Forum - 18.9%
  • Planetcricket Cricsim League - 14.7%
  • The Art of Cricket Forum - 13.7%
The Cricket 07 Downloads Forum is quite active in trying to patch away the problems with Cricket 07 and this has led to it taking out a narrow win over strong competition.

The results of the PC Awards can be discussed in this thread. More announcements will follow later with Best Thread Starter, Most Improved Member and Best Skin being announced.

Planetcricket Awards 2008 Results - Day 2

awards2008.png

Following on from our first set of results yesterday in the 2008 PlanetCricket Awards in association with Codemasters, today we bring you three more awards.

There are for Best Thread Starter, Most Improved Member and Best Skin

There were four members nominated in the category of Best Thread Starter. This award goes to the member whose threads provoked lively debate, discussion and are full of interest.
The final positions were cast as follows:

  • evertonfan - 49.3%
  • WORLD CHAMPIONS - 28.0%
  • angryangry - 16.0%

So an overwhelming result for evertonfan who canvassed nearly half the votes. Just shows that spammers can positively contribute to a forum with discussion on comedy, football, cricket and even hair care ;)

Again four members were nominated in the category of most improved member. This award goes to the member who started off with a poor reputation amongst the members, but has managed to turn it around and contribute in a more positive manner with their posting and general contribution. The final placings were as follows

  • Giggity Giggity - 43.0%
  • WORLD CHAMPIONS - 24.4%
  • punterpupnroy & Animator! 16.3% [tie]

Congratulations to Giggity Giggity who from an unsure start has made great strides in contributing to the site with his games stories and news articles etc
Special mention goes to WORLD CHAMPIONS who has finished second for the second time today!

Our last award today is for what members consider is the best skin at Planetcricket

  • Planetcricket Green Style - 56.5%
  • India Style - 10.9%
  • England Style - 9.8%

So the 'general' skin wins the day quite conclusively. Special mention at this point must go to whitehornmatt who basically made all the skins currently available for your selection. It was an enormous undertaking on his behalf, and Admin admit that it was partly his dedication to this function that convinced us to invite him onto the Admin team. It has been a decision no one has regretted as I am sure you will all agree. So basically this award goes to Matt - Congratulations

So that concludes the second day results of the PC Awards 2008. Tomorrow we can look forward to the final placings of Best New Member, Best Young Member, & Best Senior Member

Remember the results of the PC Awards can be discussed in this thread.

Planetcricket Awards 2008 Results - Day 3

awards2008.png

Now for what you have all been waiting for, day three of the results for the 2008 PlanetCricket Awards in association with Codemasters. Today we bring you three more awards.

There are for the Best New Member, Best Young Member and Best Senior Member.

There were nine members nominated as the best new member, the award for the best member to join since the last awards.
The final positions were as follows:

  • vaibhav_mehta - 30.6%
  • Black Magic - 18.8%
  • holdenator & Dr. Pepper - 10.6% [tie]

And a fairly convincing win there for vaibhav_mehta. In just a short space of time he has brought a lot to PlanetCricket, being a huge cricket fan and a doctor, which made for some interesting posts. King Pietersen made a post that became his signature that sums it up fairly well:

Personally i'd wait and take the advice from the doctor, and not some crazy russian fella who's posting on a forum for cricket fans. But that's just me.

Five members were nominated as the best young member, the award for the best member under 15 years of age.

  • Feelin Blue? - 32.1%
  • Cricketman - 31.0%
  • Gilly Fan - 16.3%

Just one vote separated the top two, one of the closest results in this years' awards. Well done to Feelin Blue? on his narrow win. FB is a great contributor across the site, including a really successful thread in the vCash Games Forum.

Our last award today is for the best senior member, the award for the older among us who still manage to get their hands to move enough to create posts. The five nominees all bring great wisdom and post quality to the site, but only one of them will win the award:

  • Kev - 53.4%
  • nightprowler10 - 15.9%
  • legend_master - 11.4%

Congratulations to Kev on winning yet another Best Senior Member. Perhaps making this award insignificant was the creation of a social group in his honour, second only to a knighthood as far as honours go. Regardless, Kev's contribution to the site has been enormous over the years, which is reflected here.

So that concludes the third day of results for the PC Awards of 2008. Tomorrow we can look forward to a super day of results with: Best Administrator, Best Global Moderator, Best Moderator, Best Cricket Game Download Thread, Best Cricket Game Patch and Best Cricket Game being announced.

Remember the results of the PC Awards can be discussed in this thread.

Planetcricket Awards 2008 - Day 4

awards2008.png

The 2008 PlanetCricket Awards in association with Codemasters gathers pace as we reach day four of the results. Today we bring you a bumper six more awards.

There are for the Best Administrator, Best Global Moderator, Best Moderator, Best Cricket Game Download Thread, Best Cricket Game Patch and Best Cricket Game

The Best Administrator Award goes to the Admin who has contributed very actively to the running, upkeep and maintenance of the site. As well as this Admin also help in the moderation of the forums, and assist Staff as and when necessary. The final votes were as follows

  • barmyarmy -80.9%
  • aussie1st - 14.9%
  • zimrahil - 3.2%

So for the second year running, Colin deservedly wins Best Admin with an overwhelming victory. This comes as no surprise as he is so active on the visible stuff the members see such as being instrumental in setting up vbookie and vcasino etc, but he is also so active behind the scenes as well, with things such as domain renewals, decision making and sorting out a multitude of issues that comes to his attention
On a personal note, I would like to thank the 3 members who voted for me, and when the annual staff reshuffle takes place your efforts will be rewarded ;)

The Global Moderator Award goes to the Globie who............well basically copy what I said for Best Admin and paste it here as exactly the same thing applies. These were the final standings:

  • whitehornmatt - 64.1%
  • nightprowler10 - 23.9%
  • Burma's Finest - 8.7%

So Matt wins the award with an overwhelming majority. Again this is thoroughly deserved for his tireless efforts the past 12 months. As mentioned previously he is responsible for all the skins currently available for you to choose from, and in addition he is a very active admin who does a lot of php work (modifying the site look and feel etc) as well as being instrumental also with setting up & implementing many new site features and custom hacks.

Our last staff award today is for the best moderator. This goes to the mod who is very active and moderates the forums sensibly, making informed decisions and handling situations tactfully and with discretion. It is a thankless task having to deal with many instances of spamming, trolling and flaming etc but without our mods the site wouldn't be able to function at the high level it currently does. Only one can win though as the results were as follows:

  • aus5892 - 21.9%
  • Sureshot - 18.8%
  • stevie - 14.6%

So congratulations to Dean on winning a closely run contest. He has been such an active mod the past 12 months, moderating many forums efficiently and without fuss. He is also very vocal in the staff forums on a variety of topics, helping make the admin's job that much easier. He is also an active poster on the forums with his stories, cricsim and running vbookie to boot

Our fourth award today is for Best Cricket Game Download Thread.

  • Whitehornmatt's Overlays - 39.1%
  • Black Magic's C07 Downloads - 29.7%
  • Prakastic Creations - 12.5%

Congratulations to Matt for winning his second award of the day. His thread was the only one nominated in both this year's and last year's awards, and the persistence at making downloads for Cricket 07 has paid off.

Our fifth award today is for Best Cricket Game Patch

  • IPL Super Patch - Black Magic - 42.6%
  • Punk's Kit Thread - Punk Sk8r - 22.1%
  • Auto Roster Stats (Cricinfo) Updater - harrypotter_fan - 13.2%

Well done to Black Magic on a well deserved and convincing win. His IPL patch has been one of the most popular patches released at PlanetCricket, cashing in on the huge interest in the IPL and doing a very good job of implementing it for Cricket 07.

Our final award today is for Best Cricket Game. The arcade side of things has generally been thin on the ground of late and the ones on the market have been deemed of poor quality by most at PC. These are up against the management type games which generally have been far better received. So who will triumph, arcade over sim? :

  • EA Sports Cricket 07 - 51.3%
  • International Cricket Captain III & EA Sports Cricket 05 - 13.8% [tie]
  • Cricket Coach 2007 - 11.3%

So EA Cricket 07 wins the title of best cricket game on the planet. Despite its many shortcomings, it easily holds off the competition, mainly because of its patchability over the likes of BLIC and thanks to the many modders at PC that have contributed to extending it shelf life
The BLIC series was no where to be seen which perhaps says a lot about how high expectations were and how lowly the game was received. Its lack of modding ability greatly affected its chances here.

So that concludes a marathon results session, and tomorrow you can look forward to receiving the results of Best Cricket Story Thread, Best Non-Cricket Story Thread, Best Sig/Artwork Thread, Best News Contributor & Best News Team Article

Remember the results of the PC Awards can be discussed in this thread.

zimrahil added 20 Minutes and 20 Seconds later...

Finally, Colin has been in contact with me and asked I post his following message regarding his Awards win:

Thank you to everyone who voted although I always feel that this is a very difficult category for the members to vote on. By the very nature of a forum the admins have different roles, some more public than others. I know that without the whole admin team it wouldn't be possible to keep the forum running properly; dealing with hosting, with domain renewals, licenses, vb hacks and upgrades. Therefore I'd like to say a really big thank you to all of them for their hard work. Also, seeing as I'm away at present, make sure you keep them all busy!
Thank you again.

PlanetCricket Awards 2008 - Day 5

awards2008.png

The 2008 PlanetCricket Awards in association with Codemasters gets ready to reach its conclusion as we reach day five of the results, the second to last day. Today we bring you a whopping five awards; namely Best Cricket Story Thread, Best Non-Cricket Story Thread, Best Sig/Artwork Thread, Best News Contributor and Best News Team Article.

The Best Cricket Story thread goes to the crafter of the thread that represents one of the oldest traditions on PC. Most of the active members here have, at one point or another, tried their hand at it. So here are the final results:

  • Three Lions on the shirt? - Highlander999 - 20.54%
  • England's Journey to the World Cup - gamerkid22 - 16.96%
  • Yet Another Kent Story - Kev - 7.14%

So Tom (Highlander999) wins the award for the Best Cricket Story thread by just 4 votes and is justly rewarded for the hard work he's put into his thread.

The Best Non-cricket Story thread award goes to the story teller who has entertained others using a story that has nothing to do with cricket. This is obviously tough to gather interest on a cricket forum so bravo to the nominees for keeping up the good work.

  • Coventry City - covlad-99 - 8.93%
  • The Barclays Premiership 07/08 - !x!Culli!x! - 8.93%
  • H0wZ4T! Presents World Wrestling Entertainment - H0wZ4T! - 8.04%

So we have a tie! An extremely close contest between all the nominees but covlad-99 and !x!Culli!x! will be taking the top award.

The Best Sig/Artwork Thread award goes to one of the most talented and hard working graphics maker whose work is usually seen on members' avatars and signatures.

  • KBC's Killing Graphics - 34.82%
  • Treva's Graphics - 9.82%
  • rabeta.art - 5.36%

KBChandraw walks away with this award by quite some margin. His thread had been around for more than a year and his graphic making ability has improved by leaps and bounds and he is now being rewarded for his hard work.

The Best News Contributor award goes to the member who has consistently filled the front page with Cricket news and match reports along with opinion pieces and kept the once endangered news team afloat.

  • baggy_blogger - 17.86%
  • manee - 16.07%
  • Cricketman - 14.29%

Yet another close vote and baggy_blogger walks away with the award for the Best News Contributor and rightly so. He's certainly put in his hard work on the site and made the front page much more interesting.

Last but not least, the Best News Team Article award goes to the writer of one outstanding article that has won over many readers and has proved his article to be the best in the past year.

  • "Marcus Trescothick - Someone I admire" - madmusician - 11.61%
  • "India's Cricketing Youth" - Cricketman - 10.71%
  • "The Mentor, the Coach and the Floundering Left Armer" - Manee - 9.82%

This was obviously a tough category to vote on, as is evident by the close result, but the one that stood out in the eyes of the PCers was one that was posted by madmusician a few months ago.

So that's it for today's results and congratulations to all the deserved winners. All these awards bring a rare tear in my eye, although that might have something to do with me peeling onions as I post this. In any case, be on the look out for tomorrow's results for the categories of Most Helpful Member, Best Cricket Chat Poster, Best Post Contributor, Best Site Feature and Best Casino Game.

Remember the results of the PC Awards can be discussed in this thread.

PlanetCricket Awards 2008 - Final Day

awards2008.png
Welcome to the final day of the 2008 PlanetCricket Awards in association with Codemasters.

We finish off this years results with the announcing of Best Site Feature, Best Casino Game, Most Helpful Member, Best Cricket Chat Poster and finally Best Post Contributor

There were 8 nominated Best site features, with the top 3 features as voted by you:

  • Casino - 23.6%
  • vBookie - 22.5%
  • Cricsim - 16.9%

This year newly installed Casino just pips last years winner for Best site feature with Cricsim following close in 3rd spot. It's great to see our New feature being popular with you the members and we can see you love to gamble. :)

With the newly crowned Best Site feature we move onto which Casino game you enjoying losing your money to. We have 6 nomination and the top 3 are:

  • Texas Holdem and Blackjack [tie] - 36.4%
  • Roulette - 13.0%
  • Slots (any) - 9.1%

And there you have it, the two card games come out on top in a dead heat. Texas Holdem with it's ability to slowly take your money away while Blackjack quickly ate away at many members Casino balance.

Now we move over to something you members can win. The Most helpful member category had 7 nominations. And your top 3 are:
  • whitehornmatt - 39.3%
  • Highlander999 - 25.8%
  • manee - 13.5%

Congratulations to Matt on winning his 3rd award this year. As has already been said for Matt's previous winnings, he has been a great asset to the admin team and hes been most helpful to us.

Over to Best Cricket Chat Poster with 7 nominees. The top 3 are:
  • manee - 26.9%
  • angryangy - 17.9%
  • Sohummisra - 15.4%

Manee picks up his first award for this year in our new Category. Congratulations to Manee, I and many members have enjoyed reading your opinions on our great game that we call Cricket.

Finally we finish off with Best Post contributor. We all know who the winner is so lets see who rounded off the top 3:
  • barmyarmy - 23.7%
  • Highlander999 - 19.4%
  • angryangy - 12.9%

So there you have it, for the 5th straight year in a row the Roger Federer of PlanetCricket takes out the Best Post contributor award which will probably be renamed to the Colin award soon enough.

And that ends this years PC awards. Congratulations to all the winners and a big thank you to Codemasters for once again providing the prizes for our awards. We hope you continue to enjoy our site and the new features we add. Thank You for tuning in to this years awards and we look forward to seeing you next year.

The results of the PC Awards can be discussed in this thread.

Winners will be contacted shortly on how they go about receiving their prizes.

Again Colin has asked me to submit the following message he has emailed me re: his Best Post Contributor Award

A big thank you to everyone who voted and I believe this was the closest Best Post Contributor yet. A special mention to highlander999 and angryangy who I'm sure have contributed more to the forum than me in the past year and deserve to be recognised for their achievements.
This is the fifth year in a row I have won Best Post Contributor and every year I win it I assume it will be my last. I believe that we have a lot of top quality posters around at present and I feel very privileged to have been selected again despite that.
Congratulations to everyone who has been nominated, won a category, or voted this year and I am sure you will all continue to contribute to PC and make us even stronger in the future.
Thank you and good luck.
