He is an average cricketer. He doesn't even swing the new ball like he used to. Sarfaraz gives him the ball in the powerplay overs, middle overs and death overs Sarfaraz has used him perfectly, IMO. With the emergence of the new talent, his chances are going to be very limited if he does not perform.

Post champions trophy, Sarfraz is only giving him four overs in first spell despite he was.giving breakthrough. Moverover in the middle and death overs Sarfraz didnt utilize him at all. You can check the recent stats.
While in Australia, The captain was Hafeez and Azhar, there who used Junaid really well. Sometimes a potential like him needs strong backing and trust from your captain. Junaid needed that but sarfraz relied too heavily on imad and hasan off-late. Junaid was also used very well by Misbah. You need trust from your captain as well and it plays a huge part in performance. Like you know well how much Sarfraz trusts on Aamir even he was doing a 9 to 5 job bowl style post champions trophy.
Though Junaid isnt good in PSL so far.

When other bowlers are taking wickets, and the captain is looking for a breakthrough, why should he give the ball to someone who hasn't been performing good and not taking wickets?

I really hate these rank turners. When Pakistan need them in Tests, the UAE curators dish out flat roads. When we need flat roads in T20s, they give slow, turning pitches

Plenty of scenarios where bowlers were not taking wickets but Sarfraz persisted with some selected bowlers. He did it a lot in the entire west indies series. When you are giving maximum overs to ones you trust the breakthroughs will come. Its all about what is sarfraz plan for his bowlers. Even if we dont talk about Junaid, Sarfraz bowling change hasnt been wise post champions trophy

Babar Azam should be left with someone like Inzy.. he has the touch game but he needs to work on his mindset and probably lift some weights in the gym. Kohli was a lot like him at his age where he struggled to hit big at will, then Basu his physio came into his life and his power game was as good as anyone's in a year.
