McKay was very underrated for what he did for our ODI team, an incredible record. Followed in the footsteps of Nathan Bracken as an ODI specialist, I wouldn't say Australia has anyone to play that role right now. Good on him

^ You said what I too had to say. McKay was indeed a genius of ODI cricket. He deserved to stay and play more Internationals. I'm not sure though why he's leaving Aussie cricket at just 33.

I'm not sure if this is the case, but one might assume he can earn more money in county cricket and if that's true than that explains why he's going to play over there, given he sees little chance of an international recall. If he's only playing in England then he doesn't count as an overseas player for his county side

Fairly sure he still does count as an overseas doesnt he? Gotta serve the minimum qualification period to become local unless he holds some kind of British passport which I doubt given he could have used it already.

Ahh okay, I have no idea about the eligibility criteria - just see a lot of experienced cricketers finish their careers playing only in England. Isn't there that Kolpak rule or something like that? What's that entail?

Kolpak rule is an EU ruling (would be interesting to see the ECBs stance if we did ever leave the EU though) so players of certain countries can play as local, most of the countries and practically all that are relevant are on this list : African, Caribbean and Pacific Group of States - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia The ECB did put a guideline in place that a player must have retired from international cricket but apparently they can't actually enforce that legally. It allows the likes of Fidel Edwards, Brendon Taylor, Sean Ervine (although he may be local by residence now) etc. to be locals.

This is such sad news. A very underrated player who I feel could have established himself for England in all formats & would have been my choice to replace Morgan as ODI/T20 skipper

Obviously it's hugely sad that a promising career has been cut short like this. But I think it's also good news that they've found this out now, rather than at a later date where it could have been a lot more serious.

I hope he stays in the game doing something. He's always come across like a really nice guy with a passion for the game and our sport needs that.
