Say no to Doordarshan

DD sucks big time lol. And if the telecasting rights go to DD than the concerned authorities should GO AND HANG THEMSELVES. The PAY TV is DIRT CHEAP in India. Its not like other countires. And all those poor people in India who can afford a TV or have a TV can and will have cable installed. Believe me its true or those poor souls usually go to a local muffin shop and stay there all day and WATCH CRICKET. Now nobody tell me that DD has more coverage area and its free to air. That's just not even an case of arguement here. What you guys hear in news about Indian Govt. awarding cricket rights to DD is a result of shoddy politics within the board and Govt. And they are hell bent on killing cricket.
It was ESPN which brought all those cool features about broadcasting in India. Hell, even my girlfriend says that she and her mom always liked ESPN coverage. Now they are not so huge cricket supporters but almost constitute 40 % of viewership.
And I will mention again "CABLE IS DIRT CHEAP IN INDIA", Even the new DTH system is cheaper than other countries.

Its cheap when you compare it with some other country... But for the average earning person in India, its costly - surely costly!

Let it be free to air BUT I DONT GET THE CHANNEL I get all other sports channels like ESPN-STAR, ZEE sports ,SONY and TEN SPORTS but I dont get DD.Not complaining here but if it is a free to air channel then I must get it.I'm happy i'm not getting the channel.Nowadays I watch the highlights shown on news channel for better picture quality.

Anyhow, any channel getting the rights have to share the feed with DD ..so whats DD's problem ? They get the rights by default as well as hold 25% revenue.
ESPN guys are cool and have great features.Even without Mandira they have attracted the feminine crowd in India with lunch time recipes shows during the match ! ;)

What 300 bucks per month is costly .I think it is that lot which is below the poverty line who feel that Rs 300 / month is costly.Well 300 is high in Pune but in other cities its barely something like 250 which is very cheap yaar.
And then its also not a question of those who cannot afford it cause the latest Govt. bill passed makes sure that DD gets the feed of all Indian cricket matches without any effort at all.

My only question here is that why not give the rights to a special broadcaster who can show it on his channel and the deferred feed can come on DD ? This will enable every cricket lover to watch the matches.
It should be a kind of the monopoly market where for the same service you can charge the different classes of ppl different amounts .

No, although some people say that I've never seen a match where adverts are shown in the middle of an over for no reason. But they have adverts after EVERY over or wicket. Also the crew is not great.

Telecast on DD in short means
4 ball overs :crying

I support DD Sports eventhough it is bad, because I don't get anyother sports channel free.
I'll have to pay for Ten Sports or ESPNStar or any other sports channel.
Also have to buy the STB instrument which costs thousands.

If no DD then no cricket, for me :cry

DD is probably the worst channel in the world..the picture quality is bad, the pre and post match programmes(match analysis) suck big time. the commercials between overs are a big pain as well..the signal quality is also bad..

Its even cheaper at my place in India. My father told me they are still paying Rs. 150 (about $3.5 US) and getting all the major channels available. LOL. Now please don't tell me its expensive.

At least think of our Aussie and UK friends here. I am sure they have to pay $40-$60 for SKY subscription. Here in NZ the package starts from $50. Now whats cheap and whats not!!!

All the average persons in India have cable TV installed. People below poverty line or poor people have other things to worry about than watching cricket on even DD(free to air). Believe me that's a real life fact!!

But I heard that you need to have set top boxes installed to receive non free to air channels... Is ESPN-STAR available on normal cable without those set top boxes??

Then I beg forgiveness... I dont exactly know!

No its not that advanced in India. The whole bouquet of channels come in the cable wire. And any one can tap it. Free cable :D :D hehe forgiven.
Although it will change with DTH but nobody is buying it anyways.

If you are living in Chennai then you are required to have a set top box to view those payed channels.

I had written a post on Fourth Umpire a few months back in my blog. It still seems applicable to the current situation.

An excerpt:
?The Fourth Umpire? has four crackpots (I?m being kind here) reviewing the events of a cricket match. There are so many reasons to hate this show. I have put them down in points for your reading pleasure.

1.The opening credits are made in powerpoint 95.
2.Roshni Chopra (presenter) knows zilch about cricket, dresses stupidly and looks anorexic. Other than that she?s great.
3.Charu Sharma(presenter) thinks that his voice is soothing but actually its pretty creepy. He tends to heat things up (ask Roshni) in the studio with his macho language and muscular looks.
4.Kris Srikkant speaks Hindi. It wouldn?t be that bad if he actually knew how to speak Hindi. But he doesn?t. He uses the adjective ?superb? for every thing. It was a superb shot, a superb delivery, a superb catch (I hope ur getting my drift). He has an ugly beard, an ugly coat, an ugly tie and a smile to go with it.
4.Atul Wassan has too much grease on his head. He does not use hair gel. He uses Parachute coconut oil. Two bottles every morning. A piece of advice Atul, ?To look cool on the show all you have to do is turn up. The others are so bad, you will be the hero. So lay low on the oil.? I do not know what Atul talks about on the show because I don?t know Hindi but I think that he sucks too.
5.The Fair and Lovely sponshorship. I think that their ads are degrading and that they should cover themselves with a blanket and sit on a hot stove listening to Kris ?chika? Srikkhant?s commentary.
6.One word to describe the set-horrible.
7.Srikkhant sang on the show. I would rather see Randy Jackson playing with a hula hoop.

You definitely need a set-top box in India for ESPN-Star Sports atleast in Chennai you have to. India is more advanced now ;)

oh, come on, who gave me bad rep for this  ?

Every sports channel will have an ad every over for the commentators to relax.
But an ad evry over which cuts the first ball and the last ball of the over is quite disheartening to the viewers.

when BCCI gave the interim rights for the two series against sri lanka and south africa to dordarshan, the Times of India actually had a report which read as :
BCCI proposes ICC 5-ball overs for the next two series
