Beijing Blitzers vs. Vatican Victors

Semi Final Leg 2

@ The Golden Dragon Stadium

Welcome to TGD Stadium where Vatican and Beijing face off in what is essentially a knock-out match to decide who makes it to the finals! Both teams are seperate by a NRR of just 0.45, and so if Beijing win by 10 runs or chase down a score of 140 in 18.4 overs, they will make it to the finals! Vatican will want to leave nothing to chance and will aim for nothing less than winning this game, while Beijing have opted for their favourite Flat pitch and will hope to storm to the finals in what should be an absolute run-fest! Vatican have won the toss, and quite surprisingly have opted to bowl first here! Beijing won't be complaining. Kalu and Funknath make their way to the middle and we're ready to get underway...

0.1 Kapil Dev to Romesh Kaluwithrana, Sloppy fielding, the batsmen were content with one but end up getting two. (2)
0.2 Kapil Dev to Romesh Kaluwithrana, Good ball, he goes for the cut, it's too close to cut, he's inside edged it, and it misses the stumps by a whisker! The keeper tidies up and there is no run. Phew that was close. (0)

The final scorecard for first innings was :
Score: 159
Wickets : 2
Overs : 20.0

And so Beijing fight their way to 159/2, but they will not be happy about this! Terrific spells from Dev and Treva made sure that Beijing couldn't run away with a large score, and despite Kalu and Shalin's best efforts, they couldn't score enough. Beijing will be annoyed about throwing away an excellent opportunity to give themselves a shot at making the finals, and now face an difficult ask of restricting VV to 149 in batting friendly conditions. From VV's point of view, the decision to bowl first was a stroke of genius, and for them the target at the moment is a score of 151 in 20 overs to ensure their spot in the finals, a score that even they shouldn't have trouble achieving. The VV side runs off the field energised and pumped up about the brilliant opportunity that has presented itself here, while Beijing will be feeling that they're out of the competition, despite being so close to winning it. Join us after the break to see if Beijing can stun us all and pull out the win from nowhere, or if Vatican will romp into the finals!

The usual double post Zorax :p

That was an excellent bowling performance. Very happy with my first two overs, could've restricted them more with my last two but we'll take this. Now for our batsmen to step up and put us in the final.

Welcome back as we see second-placed Beijing needing to restrict third-placed Vatican somehow to 149 in order to proceed to the finals! That doesn't look very likely given the brilliant batting conditions, but Vatican have been known to collapse or bat incredibly slowly when not needed too, and Beijing have pulled off several shocking wins before. Their season started so brightly before fading away, and to lose here would be heartbreaking given how hard they've tried to make it to the finals. Both sides here have nothing to lose though, in a manner of speaking, given the amounts they spent before the season and they both will take pride in making it this far. But this will be the end of the road for one of them, let's find out who as the openers mark their guard and Suren takes the new ball...

And with that emphatic display, it is official! It shall be Vatican up against Manchester Divided in the Grand Finals of PCPL 3!! Vatican made it clear that failure is not an option here, and while KI batted to ensure there would be no collapse, Guddu had no fear and laid waste to Beijing's bowling and Beijing's dreams in a stellar, match winning, soul crushing innings!
Everything started so well for Chennai when Shantanu struck in the second over to remove Dev, and they were all pumped up. Enter Guddu, who proceeded to take 21 runs off the next two overs and in all 38 runs off his first 18 deliveries, and just like that, took Beijing out of the game. KI took advantage of some loose bowling too and VV had racked up 65 runs within the powerplay and Beijing's momentum was stopped dead. They never recovered from that, as Guddu continued to flay away at the bowling, bringing up his fifty in 28 balls. KI played a more sedate role, bringing up his fifty in 40 balls, as Beijing's intensity kept falling with every shot to the fence. When Manee was cracked for 3 boundaries in an over by Guddu, they had well and truly given up. KI pumped his fist in the air when he completed the 150th run in the 15th over, as he knew that they were through, and 9 balls later, the match was over and Vatican went off to party late into the night. As for Beijing, they'll take consolation in the fact that they reached further than anyone expected them to, and will now focus on beating Chennai in the 3rd/4th place playoff match.
