Welcome to the story of Hooper’s Battrick team – St Michele CC. I will be bringing you an insight into how I run my team and bring you the daily happenings of the club.

St Michele CC (6310)

General Manager:Hooper

Country:Australia

Region:Western Australia

One Day League:V.207

First Class League:V.111

Twenty20 League:Australia group 633

Ground:St Michele CG

The Squad (23 players):

1. Eric Hooper - 17 yo, BT Rating=4,136
RH Batsman, RM Bowler, feeble batting form, woeful bowling form, sublime fitness.
A cautious player with superb leadership skills and worthless experience.

Eric Hooper is a new addition to the squad, at the tender age of 17 he has yet to make his debut. Hailing from England, this medium pacer is hoping to make an impact straight away and get a spot in both FC and OD sides as the 3rd seamer.

3. Karl Scholes - 17 yo, BT Rating=5,386
RH Batsman, LH Spin Bowler, woeful batting form, mediocre bowling form, sublime fitness.
A cautious player with abysmal leadership skills and abysmal experience.

Karl Scholes is a batsman capable of putting the gloves on and keep in OD matches if his team needs. Solid at the top of the order he is in the mould of Brendon McCullum in that he can open the batting if need be or come in down the order and bat with the tail. A very good prospect.

4. Rob Boardman - 19 yo, BT Rating=3,188
RH Batsman, RH Spin Bowler, superb batting form, strong bowling form, sublime fitness.

An attacking player with superb leadership skills and abysmal experience.
This kiwi opener is in his second season with the side after coming over from the land of sheep halfway through last season. He is capable of opening the innings with a bang and has done it effectively, averaging 33 in OD cricket. Last season scored a majestic 418 not out in his debut FC match and hasn’t looked back since.

5. Doug Bennett - 20 yo, BT Rating=16,688
LH Batsman, LM Bowler, competent batting form, superb bowling form, sublime fitness.
A steady player with strong leadership skills and woeful experience.

Sir Doug Bennett as called by some of his fellow teammates. Bennett has been with the club since manager Hooper took over and has become the solid number 3 in both forms of the game. The captain averaged 106.55 last year including 8 half centuries and 2 centuries – scoring over 1000 runs for the season. He is the most solid batsman in the side and will be looking to dominate in the upcoming BT Shield.

6. Wayne Poulter - 23 yo, BT Rating=6,092
LH Batsman, LM Bowler, strong batting form, superb bowling form, sublime fitness.
A defensive player with strong leadership skills and woeful experience.

Poulter is a name St Michele fans keep on hearing. The left handed opening batsman normally comes in at 4 behind Bennett and almost always contributes to a partnership. His strength Is just staying in, getting his eye in, then pushing on with it. The veteran has been with the club from the start and isn’t going anywhere soon.

8. Mat Gayle - 23 yo, BT Rating=5,590
RH Batsman, RM Bowler, abysmal batting form, strong bowling form, sublime fitness.
A steady player with feeble leadership skills and feeble experience.

Matt Gayle, super opener who scored over 2000 runs in the FC last season. Enough said? No. He was the most dominant, in-form player scoring 17 centuries in total over the 3 types of competitions. He is very solid in his technique, can attack when needed but can also open the innings cautiously and build partnerships. Gayle is another fan favourite having been with the club since day one.

9. Martin James - 19 yo, BT Rating=4,285
RH Batsman, RFM Bowler, feeble batting form, competent bowling form, sublime fitness.
A destructive player with feeble leadership skills and feeble experience.

James comes over from Canberra having played for Griffo’s Sharks. He is another opening batsman who can come into a match and blast a hundred from half as many balls and win you the game. Scored a majestic 80 on his debut for the club and there is so much more to see from the West Indian.

10. Malcolm Daly - 19 yo, BT Rating=4,567
LH Batsman, LH Spin Bowler, superb batting form, mediocre bowling form, sublime fitness.
A cautious player with feeble leadership skills and abysmal experience.

Daly is one half of the team’s 2 pronged spin attack. His left arm orthodox spinner’s helped him snare the most wickets for his team last season as he came into the side halfway through the season. This Australian is destined to have a big season.

11. Ray Corcoran - 18 yo, BT Rating=6,811
RH Batsman, RH Spin Bowler, superb batting form, strong bowling form, sublime fitness.
A cautious player with worthless leadership skills and abysmal experience.

Ray is the leg-spinner all Australian teams try to have. Leg-spinners just seem to do well on Australian pitches after Warne changed the way leggies went about their business…And Corcoran is no different. He was devastating last season, keeping it tight in OD matches and often grabbing top order wickets of the opposition in FC matches. Daly and Corcoran, when in the same team, spell trouble for opposition middle orders.

12. Callum Scarlett - 25 yo, BT Rating=21,293
LH Batsman, RFM Bowler, superb batting form, superb bowling form, sublime fitness.
A destructive player with woeful leadership skills and abysmal experience.

A star signing by Hooper during the off-season, Scarlett replaces Govendar as the teams first choice keeper. His keeping is compared to Gilly’s, a tall man with legs like a cat, his batting is destructive and has been known to blast 100’s at a run a ball. Will be another player to watch in the BT Shield.

13. Hayden Knight - 20 yo, BT Rating=3,609
LH Batsman, LFM Bowler, superb batting form, superb bowling form, sublime fitness.
A destructive player with respectable leadership skills and worthless experience.

Knight was the new ball bowler last season for St Michele and was the most dominant in FC fixtures. The left-armer is an attacking bowler who is always trying to get you out, and his 32 wickets last season was the most by any St Michele bowler in FC matches. A favourite with crowd, he likes to get agro.

14. Lenny Howard - 17 yo, BT Rating=2,811
RH Batsman, RM Bowler, woeful batting form, superb bowling form, invigorated fitness.
A defensive player with worthless leadership skills and abysmal experience.

Lenny Howard is a name you should write down and remember. The West Indian, after flying over just a day earlier, made a startling debut for his club getting best match figures of 5-42 in a one-day match. Is a huge prospect and will only get better the more he settles in his new country.

15. Craig Kent - 17 yo, BT Rating=3,685
RH Batsman, RH Spin Bowler, feeble batting form, strong bowling form, sublime fitness.
An attacking player with woeful leadership skills and abysmal experience.

Kent is another new signing for St Michele. This 17 year old can bat! He is an attacking middle order batsman in the mould of Michael Clarke. Be sure to keep an eye out for this bloke’s progress – particular in the shortened form of the game.

18. Kumara Eakanayake - 18 yo, BT Rating=5,218
RH Batsman, RM Bowler, proficient batting form, strong bowling form, sublime fitness.
A destructive player with proficient leadership skills and worthless experience.

Don’t even bother trying to pronounce his surname…This all-rounder’s heritage is Sri Lankan and he is something the national side is missing…A quality allrounder. Kumara is a bowling all-rounder who is capable of getting wickets from nothing then coming in down the lower order and blasting a quick 50. Is going to be very important in the OD games.

20. Kieran Mcintyre - 28 yo, BT Rating=4,146
LH Batsman, LH Spin Bowler, worthless batting form, worthless bowling form, sublime fitness.
A steady player with competent leadership skills and abysmal experience.

Another batsman addition to a squad who needs some experienced player to settle the middle order. McIntyre fits the description perfectly, a steady, cool-minded middle order player – this Englishman has big shoes to fill after the departure of Ray Thatcher last season.

23. Rob Drury - 23 yo, BT Rating=4,799
LH Batsman, LM Bowler, competent batting form, woeful bowling form, sublime fitness.
An attacking player with worthless leadership skills and woeful experience.

Is an attacking player, batting in the middle order, he can produce shots that some players can only dream of. Also an able gloveman, if St Michele needs an extra batsman then Drury should have no troubles in taking the gloves for his team.

24. Johnnie Cummings - 17 yo, BT Rating=4,475
RH Batsman, RM Bowler, respectable batting form, respectable bowling form, invigorated fitness.
A defensive player with woeful leadership skills and worthless experience.

The new trainee, this English import has things going for him. Cummings was going to sign up for the Kent reserves but St Michele offered him a contract and he didn’t have to think twice about coming to Australia to play Cricket. Wont play all that much this season due to training commitments but will develop into a very fine player.

25. Mushtaq Moodley - 17 yo, BT Rating=7,006
LH Batsman, LM Bowler, mediocre batting form, superb bowling form, sublime fitness.
A destructive player with superb leadership skills and abysmal experience.

An Indian allrounder is sometimes compared to Irfan Pathan…Just not as good. Moodley is going to play a big part this season with his left arm mediums. Bought from the Academy of Raiders Eleven – you know he is going to have a bright future.

29. Mushtaq Lisbie - 17 yo, BT Rating=8,782
LH Batsman, LFM Bowler, proficient batting form, mediocre bowling form, lively fitness.
A defensive player with competent leadership skills and abysmal experience.

Another trainee from England, Lisbie is one player who is going to partner Bennett at the top of the order. The left hand batsman is a very able opener and has already scored a triple hundred for his club. Wont play a huge part in the shield, but if he is needed then expect him to deliver.

32. Duane Lloyd - 17 yo, BT Rating=2,989
LH Batsman, LM Bowler, proficient batting form, woeful bowling form, sublime fitness.
An attacking player with respectable leadership skills and abysmal experience.

Lloyd was brought over from the West Indies just like Lenny Howard. Lloyd is a handy 2nd XI batsman who can bat in the middle order and score quick runs. Will only play if regular players get injured.

41. Andrew Otoole - 17 yo, BT Rating=3,226
RH Batsman, RFM Bowler, competent batting form, superb bowling form, sublime fitness.
A cautious player with strong leadership skills and worthless experience.

O’Toole is often ridiculed for his name, but lucky he lives up to his name and doesn’t make it seem he gets picked on. O’Toole is a fast bowler who can open the bowling and extract good bounce from any wicket with is great height. Look out for him on tracks that favour fast bowlers but…he will rip through you.

54. Martin Mattheus - 21 yo, BT Rating=4,080
LH Batsman, LFM Bowler, strong batting form, superb bowling form, sublime fitness.
A destructive player with abysmal leadership skills and woeful experience.

Another Southern Shark, Mattheus is a proven player having dominated as an opener in Griffo’s side last season. Expect him to slot straight into this side and perform. Has weight issues that will surely be discussed time and time again with the manager.

69. Ian Thorn - 18 yo, BT Rating=11,692
RH Batsman, RFM Bowler, proficient batting form, superb bowling form, fresh fitness.
A defensive player with proficient leadership skills and abysmal experience.

Ian Thorn is a favourite with the ladies and is going to have a bright future. The club’s main all-rounder is the “Freiddie” of the side, able to bowl fast and bat hard. Once his fitness improves, expect him to dominate the Shield, especially with the ball.

Today was the first day of another FC match for the boys. We play LMCC at our ground on a very green pitch prepared by Douglas Benedict. We won the toss and Dougie Bennett decided to bowl on this green top on a cloudy and humid morning. Conditions were ripe for fast bowling.

Lineup for todays match:

Gayle
James
Bennett (*)
Drury (+)
Kent
Poulter
Eakanayake
Otoole
Corcoran
Knight
Howard

New squad member Kumara Eakanayake took the new ball with the inform Lenny Howard as they tried to get us off to a good start. But it was a mix up from the batsman that produced the first wicket of the day.
2.3 WEakanayake to Sterling He looked like he'd been eating too many pork pies as he ambled towards the stumps and is easily run out.
But after this wickets where hard to come by until after lunch when another mix up occurred and then wickets started tumbling.
All the bowlers contributed well. Eakanayake making his debut took 2-51 from his 23 overs. The inform West Indian fast bowler Howard took 2-46, Knight snared 2-49 and the spinner Corcoran got 2-57.
This is how LMCC finished:
End of Over 90 (4 runs). LMCC: 244-10, runrate=2.71
So with 20 overs left in the day we were determined to just see out the rest of the overs and make a solid start for tomorrow. Gayle and James who haven’t been in the best of form late didn’t get to the best of starts with James going cheaply for 8.
4.4 WBaholo to James Fast, full, plumb. Beat him for sheer pace, the umpire's finger went up before the bat came down!
Captain Bennett came into the fold and made sure we got off to a good start. By stumps we were 1-83 from our 20 overs faced with Bennett on 43 from 50 balls and Gayle on 23 from 61 balls. I have a feeling tomorrow is going to be a big day for Bennett in particular.

Manager Hooper said:
So we resumed our innings on the second morning of this FC match with Bennett and Gayle at the crease. Gayle didn?t last long, gone cheaply for 24. We went at about 4 an over for the majority of the day with Bennett scoring at a frantic rate. All day it was Bennett who was the aggressor and it was his partners who stuck with him for small partnerships. Dougie Bennett brought up his hundred and it didn?t look like he was going to be getting out any time soon. He was joined by his old mate, Wayne Poulter and they went about their business in scoring at a frantic rate and building a big partnership. Before too long, Bennett brought up his double hundred and all the people at the ground stood up and applauded him as he removed his sweaty helmet to expose those ginger locks of his. But 15 runs later he was gone, bowled!
90.3 W Mian to Bennett There is no sweeter sound in cricket than the sound of the bails clattering to the floor, so it's no wonder that Mian is pleased. Bowled him!
After this wicket is was Poulter to bat with the lower order and the tail. He was the rock, making a very handy 75 not out from 138 balls. Too bad he run out of partners ? he was on target for a hundred it seems. So we finished all out for 465 from 117 overs with Bennett top scoring with 215 and Poulter making a valuable 75 not out. Tomorrow is going to be an interesting final day. With a lead of 200ish we feel that if we go attacking, we can bowl them out again within a day, then order all our batman to go all out if we have a small total to chase late in the day. It?s surely going to be a thriller of a match! Stay tuned.

Scorecard:

Player of the day:

Doug Bennett - 215 (271)

Can St Michele pull off a stunning victory inside 3 days? Or will his opponent play it safe and bat it out for a tame draw?

Good luck with this story, Hoops! :thumbs More and more test for the manager arises as you move up the order facing tough teams. But you have improved a lots. If I remember right, you reached semi finals in last shield?

Good luck for the rest of this season. :)
