Sri Lanka once again lost early wickets being 36/3 inside 8 overs. However, Mahela Jayawardene showed a lot of resilience as he held up his end pretty nicely. Arjuna Ranatunga along with Jayawardene put on 85 for the 4th wicket stand before Ranatunga got out on 44. Jayawaedene's resistance was finally broken after 63 balls as he scored 36. Hashan Tilakaratne added 31 with Chandana and 42 with Vaas respectively. Tilakaratne scored 42 at a healthy strike rate of 80 on that tricky surface! Sri Lanka were bowled out on 218 inside their 50 overs. Shoaib Akhtar was once again amongst the pick of the bowlers picking up 4/41 while Saqlain Mushtaq also took 3 wicket getting out Upasantha stumped to bowl Sri Lanka out. Wasim Akram somehow ended up on the expensive side taking 1/58. The remaining wickets were taken by Abdul Razzaq finishing with figures on 2/37 in his 9 overs. Not a lot of runs needed from Pakistan with Saeed Anwar in the kind of form he is in, but Sri Lanka does have quality in their attack to defend such score on a surface like this!

Abdul Razzaq played a lone hand for Pakistan scoring 66*(99) as they fall short by just 3 runs!!! Quite expectedly Saeed Anwar got Pakistan off to a good start but he ended up lobbing a half-tracker from Chandana into the hands of Muralitharan at deep mid-wicket. Thereafter, they collapsed from 62/1 to 73/4! Inzamam & Razzaq continued to score quickly before Inzamam got out on 29. With 5 wickets down, Moin Khan & Razzaq played with caution and added 44 more runs. Pakistan needed 9 runs to win off the last over which was bowled by Jayasuriya. Razzaq got a boundary off the 3rd ball of the over but however gave away the strike to Akhtar on the 4th bowler. Akhtar ended up missing both the deliveries. Sri Lanka may not have made it to the Finals but they went on to beat the strongest side in the tournament. So something to cherish for them!

Disappointing by Razzaq, he should have easily scored 9 off Jayasuriya in the last over. Our middle order should have batted much better.

Since we are done with the group matches, Australia & Sri Lanka are no longer part of this tournament. Thank you guys for the participation. I am glad that you guys showed interest in this league. Also thank you for not troubling me as a league manager as far as the line-ups were concerned.

I had good 6 weeks while running this league. And would hope to have another good week or so. Also don't lose heart if you did not make it ahead in the league, you were all competitive throughout, infact the best managers!!!

In the absence of his best bowler in Shoaib Akhtar, Wasim Akram himself took up the responsibility to wreck havoc in the opposition camp. The Pakistan Captain took 4/48 in his 9 overs picking up all 4 of the top order batsman of India. The spinners kept it extremely tight as all of them had an economy of under 4 runs an over! Mushtaq Ahmed got his 2nd opportunity to play in this tournament as he picked the wicket of Ajay Jadeja and conceded just 30 runs in his 10 overs. Shahid Afridi just bowled 6 overs but he gave away only 12 runs and took the wicket of Robin Singh. Saqlain Mushtaq got the priced scalp of Tendulkar while he also picked up Anil Kumble who got out bowled to finish his spell with figures of 2/38 in his 10 overs. Abdul Razzaq also bowled a decent spell but he went wicketless. Waqar Younis is definitely struggling to pick wickets since he came back from his injury and he conceded 36 in his 7 overs without taking a wicket.

Indian batsmen really struggled for their runs and nobody apart from Sachin Tendulkar scored in excess of 30. Infact the best score in the innings after Sachin was that of Kumble who scored 23. Ajit Agarkar also scored useful 16 runs. Azharuddin and Ganguly who helped India to qualify for the Final got out on single digits. Sachin Tendulkar's 109 contributed about 52% of runs in India's innings. Sachin-Kumble partnership of 52 runs was India's best phase in the innings. Pakistan need to score just 209 runs in their 50 overs to get a lead in the best of 3 Finals.
