WC 2007 Final

People should not take Gilchrists innings for granted because i doubt we will ever see that from him again. Due to his age factor i believe he will retire soon to spend more time with his family.

I'm surprised that he didn't retire along with McGrath. Same with Haydos.
Australia is a fantastic team and has an awesome bench strength no doubt. They proved that for 2 WC's now. But with all these superlative all-stars aging in their high 30's, how much longer will King Australia's reign last?

Because Australia need a transition period. They can't just lose all their players.

australia will go downhill in a few years with all there decent players retiring, teams like bangladesh can only get better, even england can't get any worse

Australia will go through a period of bringing in new players but it's another 4 years to the World Cup and when that comes around those young players would have turned into superstars.

Well, Gilli has spoken before the finals that, he had no idea of retirements and he wanted to carry along for some more time.. and yet to think of it.

Mate, Shane Warne before the Ashes said he still had a good couple of years left in him then he suddenly called retirement.

very true, same happened with Brian Lara, he only decided a few weeks ago, however he kept dropping hints.

Aswell Damien Martyn just called it quits after a test match.

I obviously support warwickshire, and after last season, Nick Knight retired totally out of the blue???

At the start of the season, he said it would be his last.

no, he said it MIGHT be his last, but then he said nothing about so i thought he wasnt going to.

Well, how much more of a clue do you want!?

Well it was certainly a thrashing by Australia, but you also have to look at the circumstances for Sri Lanka. They had to repeatedly come on and off the field, play for the most part on a damp pitch with a damp ball and with varying amounts of light. You cannot really say that both teams batted in equivalent and fair conditions.

That's not to say that Gilchrist's innings wasn't spectacular. In fact, if Gilchrist hadn't gotten going or one of the chances were taken, I suspect the result would have been different, or at least, the match would have been much closer.
