Maybe they realised they haven't changed enough since 2005 to give it away for free?
Looking at the archive of the download page they were giving free codes through a facebook app, rather than having a 'free download' - the app is no longer on their Facebook page so there's no way of getting it.

I did download the ICC2005 for free few months back but when I installed it again after formatting my PC, it was no longer free even after entering the promo code. May be there was some use by date or something for the free version. It worked fabulously well tell then.
Note: I did not play the game for about a week before I formatted the PC so may be the deadline ended within that week.

So I know I'm late to this party but I saw a Hooper post and had to have my say!
They used to have ICC05 for free as well as selling all the older versions on the childish things website. Pretty sure they took them all down late last year. I managed to buy 06 Ashes on my old laptop but it has since been destroyed.
I am waiting on a new physical copy of it to arrive before Christmas.
