The last I heard about him was in July, when he was dropped from the Test squad. Since then, he has disappeared without a trace.

Why isn't he being picked? He has an awesome record in India and he should have made the cut for the India ODI series, imo.

Someone throw light on the subject please.

He retired from test cricket but wants to keep playing ODI cricket until the 2011 world cup, which doesn't look likely as he's fairly average these days. IMO Sri Lanka have far better bowlers then Vaas and there's no need to be picking a 35 year old seamer who's pace is mid 120's now.

the way Malinga's performing they might as well bring him back

Malinga is another T20 superstar

Vaas hasn't been in the side for ages....

If by 'ages' you mean as recently as five months ago...

He retired from Tests, but he should definitely be picked for ODI's. Even without his pace, he is still a good bowler, because of his experience and his vast amount of deliveries. He can bowl off cutters, and leg cutters. He bowls the bouncer, slower bouncer. He can bowl the yorker, and the slower ball too. He was one of the main reasons Murali was successful, because he would shut out the runs from one end, letting Murali attack from the other. They could use him in these flat tracks, where you have to have variety to keep the batsman surprised.

The Lankans obviously believe they have got better players then him and I agree. Didnt look the quality bowler he was in his last test

he haven't played a ODI since last year in Augest.. and in that match he got his 400th Wicket :).
he was a great bowler.. sad to see him go

He really should be picked. Do you see the current Sri Lankan bowlers dominating the Indians. Not really. He does have something to offer.

He's not going to be one of their top bowlers in Tests, but currently the way it is looking is that he's not their 7th best seamer in one dayers. I think maybe that's not the case and I question whether they really couldn't use the extra experience, especially if trying to bring some young players through.

Their probably trying to develop seamers for the WC 2011 and Vaas is not in those plans.

Vassy is a legend and he should just retire and become a coach to these young Sri Lankan quick's. They have a good number of left handed bowlers and he can teach them a thing or two, show them what brought him success.

well i saw ipl highlights today and in the 3 overs i watched vaas bowl his speed was around 119 kmh 109 for the slower ball

He's lost pace and the faith of the selectors due to inconsistency, I believe. But he can be provided a gracious exit if Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) doesn't want to persist with him.

He's been a loyal player and the least he deserves is an exit on a high :)
