Too big and has nothing to do with the best batsman in the world

The most frequent question on every one's mind pops out very often in public message boards as well. Everyone has their own opinion when it comes to the best and after having followed a good number of cricket matches live at the grounds, I would say Tendulkar and Lara are by far the best. Hayden has done well in the last 2 years but I won't rate him anywhere near the who little geniuses unless he maintains that average for atleast three more years. Moreover, Hayden is yet to play test cricket in challenging conditions of Srilanka and Pakistan.

Hayden has played in Sri Lanka, actually.

Just one match scoring 4 and 34.
Thanks for pointing that out. :)
For a batsman to be recognized as the worlds best, he needs to fire in all types of pitch conditions. Hayden has done remarkable well in India but facing Muralitharan in Sri Lanka is a whole new task. Lets see how he fares in their next trip. Any idea when the Aussies are scheduled visit the island?

Not sure when they're next playing, I think it's next year. By the way, that match above was actually against Pakistan.
But it was not played in Pakistan.

Dificult to say who is the best batsman... You`re only as good as the last innings you`ve played

Lara obviously is a superb batsman who caries the weak west indian batting line up and will be remembered for a long time.

Tendulkar is a great batsman. An all time great...

Steve Waugh has been very consistant in test cricket since the 1989 ashes series (before that he didn`t score a test century in 4 years !!) Has a remarkable number of runs

Hayden and ponting are very good test batsmen...bu are they greats??

Lara and Tendulkar jointly

i agree with practically everyone on this thread that sachin is the best.hayden and ponting don't face the best bowlers in the world everyone else.

tendulkar 'was' the best... he aint now, his average over the past year is 17~... and he dropped out of top 10

sachin......the best their is.........the best their was........and the best their ever will be..........

The best there was is obviously Don Bradman & how can you predict the future.
All that you can say is that sachin is the best there is and that is correct.
Don't get too carried away

ALL time greatest tendulkar????

NO!!!!

Bradman
Sobers (greatest all rounder ever left arm fast SLA orthadox and chinaman as well as 60 batting ave)
Jack Hobbs
Herbert Sutcliffe
Sunil Gavaskar
Boycott....

List could go on....

And most of them didn`t play the majority of their innings on Flat Sub continent pitches...Boycott would have averaged 80 !!!
