One exciting thing for England is Phil Salt looks like the next generation of openers to take ODI opening to another level.

Roy and Bairstow upped everything by going at 100+, Salt is currently striking at 128. Small sample size but he looks like a ready-made replacement/stand-in.

I fully agree - he's taken that role and specialised it one step further to an outright Powerplay hitter. And if he finishes the Powerplay on 50 not out, then he can build on that by carrying on in the same vein.

Buttler at number four - if that continues to be a thing then that is also the next evolution of that particular role; truly moving from having Morgan as a sort of second accumulator. Buttler averages 70 and strikes at 170 in that role

Buttler didn't even bat today, I think him coming at four is just consistent with using him in the last half of the innings. Morgan/Stokes/Buttler has always been a fluid combination.

It hasn't particularly - Morgan has batted at four 76 times, Buttler 11 and Stokes 3. Their positions have been quite clearly defined, with only very rare exceptions.

I definitely think the ploy of committing him to number four even if the first two wickets fall cheaply has some merit: he is a versatile enough player that he can adjust his game (as demonstrated by his exploits as a T20 opener) and if one were to get 40-odd overs of Jos going full boss then you simply don't lose that cricket match

Who else feels that the way Phil Salt plays his strokes it makes him look like Jos Buttler trying to play conventional Cricketing shots?

Yep. No Neil Smith opening, no Vince Wells, no Ian Austin with this lot.

Team is far too ruthless.
Thoroughly unsporting.

Although it shows how much ODI cricket has changed since the likes of Neil Smith that the Netherlands have been pretty crap here and still finish on 244.

Right now I'd pick Phil Salt ahead of Jason Roy in my first-choice England ODI team. He's hitting it so cleanly, but he also looks technically very sound and I still feel that he could be a bolter for a future Test opening slot

EDIT - And as I submit that he wafts in the vague direction of a straight ball and is bowled

Salt and Jacks will be pure box entertainment when they’re opening for England in the near future.

As Jason Roy is waltzing to his second 100 in 2 matches. I do think Salt could be an option at 7 in tests.

Zak Crawley, unless they persist with him as a test opener, on flat wickets against the white ball could be better.

edit - Roy didn't get a 100 last match
