I pretty much believe that both sides would be wanting that England bats first.

Ireland's reason :-
They batted first in both matches and have failed to achieve anywhere near the par score and their bowlers have been able to get wickets but the target they need to defend is way too less. They would be hopeful that they can do much better while bowling first and chasing a decent target.

England's reason :-
In both matches England have been in a spot of bother while chasing even low targets like 173 and 213. I think they would consider batting first to be a better option which would allow them to bat a bit more freely and hence put a good score on the board. They would fancy themselves to score 300 or maybe they might even score 350+ if they do so.

In all fairness it clearly states that England would most probably be batting first.

I expect the last match to be high scoring and England winning it 3-0.

Yash.

We'll, if Paul Stirling fires... You never know what is a good total.

We shouldn't forget he single handedly demolished the WI bowling attack in a T20 in 2019..

I believe it was also in the ODI World Cup in a match against the same opposition at the Bay Oval in New Zealand back in 2015 where he scored a hundred in a winning cause chasing around 300 where the Irish side won quite comfortably. But I think with the different format and a capable bowling attack in white ball Cricket England could defend well against Ireland.

For England (the top team I mean) 350 is the new 250. Its only reasonable to see that some of the batters are still finding their way.

The thing with the Irish batsmen is a complete lack of useful experience. Playing four List A matches a year at grounds like Stormont and Bready just doesn't prepare you for playing positively on a track like the Rose Bowl, against bowlers bowling high-80s

The four things we need in our domestic cricket at the moment are:
  • More money
  • More matches
  • More teams
  • More overseas talent

Last match today. Read this interesting article.

In 11 List A innings for Somerset as an opener, Banton averages 41.27 at a strike rate of 94.6; in six innings in the middle order, those numbers are 11.67 and 55.1.

If it seems extraordinary that Banton's first-ever white-ball innings at No. 4 should come in an England shirt, it also serves to illustrate how difficult they have found it to unearth middle-order talents.

I think everyone in the top seven apart from Morgan is an opener, or opened regularly at some point. Even Willey at 8, lol

Things are far worse when we talk about India and Australia. Australians are actually finding it difficult to even find players wanting to play in the middle order and being talented at the same time. For India, it is like too many cooks spoil the broth. For India, there is talent in abundance but then if that player fails for a couple of matches then that player is shown the door out of the team which I think adds to their middle order troubles. The only side I see that has a stable batting line-up is New Zealand, they have players who would score irrespective of the conditions. England have one of the strongest batting orders and if they find that pool of middle order which they are thriving for, it would be much more difficult for sides to beat them.

Being a pure middle order batsman sounds like a thankless task in general though. Two recent examples would be David Miller and Kedar Jadhav. Both are not liked by their country fandom in general and yet both have killer stats on paper. If you were to ask me all that I would remember is them failing at the World Cup or on more occasion than once. Yet they have provided performances that have been decisive in winning games sometimes (Miller MVP vs Australia everytime or Jadhav's century vs England).

In contrast, a keeper or an all-rounder in the middle order role almost seems to be less harshly treated (granted one of them is Buttler who is the best in the world currently and would still be invaluable as a pure bat but then would he not be the exception to prove the rule?) even when they don't have such good numbers with the bat because they contribute more as a fifth bowler (compared historically) with the ball.
