As an Irishman, in career mode, will I be able to play for Ireland then England a la Morgan and Rankin?

And if he gets dropped by England can he go back and play for Ireland like Ed Joyce?

c. Ive not seen much what's been the issue?

The issue was that ball was like a soap to hold on and bowl [Said by Ashwin in the match]...Seam got very wet as the dew was very high in Ranchi....:yes

Hi Mike, good to see you again!

I remember you said that career-mode related questions will have to be answered in another session. If you can answer them now, I would like to repeat my question from the previous week, i.e. in the career mode, will there be messages or certain instructions from the captain sitting in the dressing room? For example, to rotate strike, keep wickets in hand, go berserk. Similarly, when we are the captain, can we advise our bowlers to bowl to a plan, or to our batsmen to play accordingly to our plan?

On the other hand, I would like to question about the following things:

1. Is there the 'dew factor' in the game? If yes, how much does it affect the gameplay and the toss selection? (To AI too)

2. Will there be cut-scenes for the toss? What about pitch reports, team discussion, etc?

3. As you mentioned that the current gen platforms don't have enough resources to let us pick the exact bowl by looking at the hand of spinners, is it going to end up as merely guesswork? Your comments on this please.

4. In games like EA 07, it was almost impossible to play shots like cover drive and square-cuts. You will almost always nick the bowl as your confidence wasn't high enough. How difference will DBC'14 be in this regard? Will we able to execute your shots right from the beginning, IF we do it right?

5. In the final, shipped version of CA, is there any chance of more appropriate names for certain bowling deliveries as we discussed earlier? It would be even great if for an off-spinner, certainly deliveries get banned. For example, he won't be able to bowl the leg-break. It would be a Googly and not everyone could do it. Speaking of which, are there going to be certain 'specialities' for bowlers? For example, you can have a super-aggressive batsman, who is like a T20 specialist, e.g. Shahid Afridi. You know his specific abilities. Is it the same for bowlers? E.g. a specialized death-bowler, who are more likely to hit the blockhole yorker length than many other bowlers?

Thanks :)

Adding another question related to career mode, I've asked this 3 times before but no answer. Hoping to get answer this time around :).

How does career mode work for Asian players? because there are only IPL teams present in CA which i don't think will come in to picture during career mode.

hi mikey

asked this last week, you may have missed it -

1) regarding 2 vs 2 online games. how does voice chat work, can everyone talk to everyone or can you just chat with your teammate? also, what happens if 1 of the 4 disconnect? any other details of this mode that you can reveal..

2) how easy/difficult is it to effect stumpings in manual fielding? and how good has the AI been in executing stumpings?

3) how has been the experience with online lag, game stability (ie disconnections etc)

thanks :cheers

It's been revealed we can save progress in online games...can we do the same for offline/single player games? Don't really see you guys expecting us to complete a match all in one hit...

You can save games.

To try and keep things clean in this thread, if you haven't kept up to date with the game, this isn't the thread to ask questions - only ask something if you have thought about the answers given so far on the topic, or if it's an important area of the game you haven't read anything about from Big Ant.

Also, keep discussion of answers to a minimum, unless you've got a relevant followup.

If you're not sure, just post in the normal Q&A thread, they still read those, just this thread is aimed at focusing in on some of the detail.

The more I read, the more I think the best way to approach this games nuances is basically forgetting everything we've known to date about "playing" cricket with a controller and start from there...

Button-mashing for boundaries sounds like a thing of the past... Are they?

Yep, I'd say the best way to put it is you finesse the ball, no mashing.

like seriously, can someone change the name of the thread? most of it is NOTHING to do with bowling/skills.

and maybe we could set one up that really IS for bowling/skills, and we can get some of the bowling/skills questions answered?

i have got several teams i cannot complete in CA because we haven't been told enough (anything) about some of the skills. CA goes from being a strength to just a fancy "create a sim" clone because i can't translate any of the skills/attributes into anything meaningful.

Blocker, I'm sorry we've not got round to answer some important things for you. with the Skills on Spin Bowling, I think we need to work on an update for CA that better reflect the names that are listed in the final game. You've definitely got the grasp of it though in terms of how the names would change based on if you leg or off or left or right handed. So a Doosra for a finger spinner would be a wrong'un for a wrist spinner etc. That just needs to be named correctly in the CA.

As far as listing out skills, think of it as this

Level 5 Skill - a player plays that stroke, delivers that ball at a Test Player Standard
Level 4 Skill - First Class
Level 3 Skill - County/State Seconds
Level 2 Skill - Club Cricketer
Level 1 Skill - Pub Cricketer (me)

You might say that a player may be test standard at hitting a front foot drive, but is only first class standard at a back foot pull shot. Tailenders in test teams, might only be Club Cricketer standard at any back foot shots.

Does a higher temperature make players fatigued faster?

actually it does, minimal, but yes.

This was asked in the past without a answer, so just trying my luck again: Is it possible to add custom tours/competitions in career mode? If not, can you please share how would career mode work - does it have a fixed format of tournaments/matches that it would follow? Also, would it be possible to create custom teams to play against in career mode. For example: If I start as a Rookie in Mumbai, do I get to setup a "fake Indian domestic league" format that my career player would get to play in?

thanks mikey - that's v interesting about the skills, makes a lot of sense. definitely helps me with my england's worst xi as they mostly had very good first class records but obviously couldn't cut it at test level.

still very interested in the various swing related q's :) (yes, i am an impatient git)

That and harder you run (between wickets and in field) or bowl will fatigue the player faster. Players with less stamina would need to be handled with care. The stamina and strength attributes will dictate their work rate like bhuvneshwar kumar can bowl 10 over spell at a stretch, pattinson is used in shorter spells.

The fitness stats are important - because the dictate how fast fatigue builds up and thus other attributes are affected. low fitness and you will find run speed drops, accuracy affected, arm speed slower etc. also, if fatigue builds up it increases injury chances.
