Hey guys, just wanted to know if any of you had any advice for me.
Finishes my 1st year as a fast bowler in career mode (Pro Difficulty) and I must say it's turning out to be one of the most frustrating gaming experiences in recent memory, only eclipsed by Super Meatboy!
It seems just about impossible to take wickets...regardless of how well I bowl or who the batsman is. in 20odd First Class games I average around 45 run per wicket, and going at about 2rpo...I generally have the batsmen play and miss half the deliveries per over, but it seems that anything, absolutely ANYTHING en-route to the wickets get stonewalled, whether its an Opening batman or Graham Onions!
The most frustrating thing is perhaps how building pressure or bowling a really good spell and setting the batsman up with good deliveries, has zero effect on whether you will be able to dismiss him. It would often happen that a batsman is totally bamboozled for 5 straight ball (i.e ouswinger beating the edge) only to coverdrive a bending in-swinger as though the previous 5 deliveries never happened.
Tail-ender crashing 155kph bouncers in front of square for 4 on the first ball they face, sticking out the bat to the offside and planking a legcutter over 3rd man for 6, defending Wasim Akram-like swingers better than Dravid could ever hope to do, disregarding the "rules" playing full deliveries off the back foot or coverdriving half trackers....just a number of ridiculously retarded competence by AI non-batsmen.
On the odd occasion that I do get a wicket, it seems to come out of nowhere - The AI just decided that on the specific bal during the match, regardless of who is bowling or what type of delivery it is, they will coax me into thinking I figured out how bowling works. There's also never a sense of having the upper hand on any new batsman walking in, because their confidence/competence rating is merely a gimmick.
Finally...the other demoralising thing I find is that when I encounter games like these (pretty much every game lately) I would finish my spell with figures like 1/60 after 26 overs, only to simulate and see the AI dismissed the last 6 wickets for 29 runs - that drives me up the wall.
So what's the point? Are any of you experiencing similar frustrations with bowling? Any tips?
Thanks!
