India Tour New Zealand- 2022- Limited Overs only tour.

IND can't rest easy though, we need our own jamienson from 2020 to hurt NZ. 15 odd more would have been nice. I don't think spinners will purchase much here and we've two of them

Umran’s done well so far. A pleasant surprise.

Latham in the middle order in a subcontinental WC will be an absolute nightmare to bowl to.

Awful, awful over from Thakur and awful field management from Dhawan. Completely lost the plot in that one over.

Alright that’s a quality hundred from the lad. Still don’t understand how he plays so well against India alone.

Discipline seems to be slipping away now. Where‘s the stand-in captain and what is he doing…

He is always on God mode against India. Him, Jamieson and Matt Henry have seldom done below par versus us (I thought 0/48 in an innings of 300+ scored is a decent effort from Henry).

He is at square leg attempting to square the match away and failing miserably at that.

We’re going to have armchair experts go after Umran by just seeing the scorecard and his last over aren’t we? :facepalm

Latham has been phenomenal and deserve all the accolades. Big up to him for giving support to captain Kane before taking on the charge. This has been SOME innings oozing class.

For India though, apart from lackluster bowling from Shardul, I feel the absence of sixth bowling option hurt the team a lot.

Its been an eternity since we have seen anyone in India's top 5 with the ability to bowl a few overs. We need someone to chip in with few overs like Sehwag, Sachin and Ganguly back in the day or even say Raina and Kedar not so long back.

What a shot with the back of the bat from Latham! Just wow!!

Props to Williamson too. He has been the glue that has stuck the innings together while Latham went full monty at the other end. Too bad he might end up stranded in 90s.

We need two all-rounders in the top seven. It’s an absolute non negotiable for a modern ODI side. Even if the sixth bowler doesn’t bowl the mere presence of him gives so much more flexibility on the ground for a tactically aware skipper.

I don’t think guys like Raina and Jadhav will cut it anymore. Once teams work out their actions and bowling plans they’ll be taken to the cleaners due to their lack of skill. The middle overs also have only four outfielders and it is a lot easier to manipulate strike in the current era.

What you are talking about is an IDEAL situation which can actually be worked out with Hardik and Jadeja/Washington at 6 and 7 but apart from them, we don't have anyone who can be called as reliable genuine allrounder (Shardul, Axar and Deepak Chahar are obviously bowling allrounders) and I am afraid neither of them would make a cut based on their batting.

IIRC, Kedar Jadhav was a keeper early on before he started to roll his arm over. Now this might not be the most appealing option given the performance in the recently concluded T20I WC but KL Rahul can try and emulate something similar so can Shreyas (would really solidify his spot at 4 against Sky in ODI team) and Gill.

Rahul has been phenomenal at 5 with the bat if you ask me but then again, he would be keeping wickets if he wants to make a cut. That leaves us with Rohit who used to bowl off spin earlier. Not sure what induced him to give up bowling. An extra option is always a bliss if any/both of Hardik and/or Jadu gets injured. That way, we would be able to play an extra batsman/specialist keeper such as Sanju/Pant/Kishan.

Rohit
Gill
Virat
Shreyas
Rahul (keeper)

No matter what the experts say, I absolutely loved watching Umran bowl today. Was a breath of fresh air. This format suits him well compared to T20I where he would have less chance to turn the tables if he gets tonked early on. I am eagerly waiting for Natarajan to get at his best. He is such an exciting bowler too.

Can we have an all left arm pace attack once again for India with Natarajan-Arshdeep-Mohsin in the future? Reminds me of Zaheer-Nehra-Irfan-RP Singh era. Pakistan did the same few years ago by having the likes of Mohammed Irfan-Junaid-Amir-Wahab in their ranks. England are trying follow suit with Willey-Topley-Mills-Curran in their ranks.

Given the recent success of left armers, it is evident that all teams are looking to have left arm seam options in their ranks which (the inclusion of left arm pace bowlers) was reflected in the T20I World Cup as well.
