Hussey Clinches Victory For Australia

Michael Hussey scored an unbeaten half century as he guided Australia to a convincing victory in the third one day international against South Africa. The victory also sealed a sensational clean sweep of the 3 match series for the Australians with a 5 wicket victory.

Hussey scored 51 not out from 54 balls with a controlled peformance as Australia chased down the 218 runs required for victory. James Hopes also got another taste of international cricket with a cautious 18 not out from 39 balls.

The series proved the perfect build up for the much anticipated home series against a powerful India unit in both the test and one day modes while the Australians will also have to compete with the ever-dangerous Pakistan outfit.

CASTLE LAGER TEST MATCH ANALYSIS

AUSTRALIA

World Champions, Australia, arrived back at the place they won the World Cup in 2003 with high hopes of a series victory. They came into the Castle Lager test series red hot favourties but the home side came out strong in the first match. Jacques Kallis lead the home side to an amazing victory to go 1 up in the series as the Australian middle order struggled.

The second match produced the Australian side of old. Hayden returned to form with 99 while Gilchrist was at his sensational best with two half centuries as Australia tied the two match series at 1-1.

As the above table shows Adam Gilchrist starred for the visitors with the bat while Stuart MacGill came into the series with great effect for the final match to claim 8 wickets at an average of 10.

CASTLE LAGER TEST MATCH ANALYSIS

SOUTH AFRICA

pltop-5-a.jpg

The home side came under intense pressure leading up to the game with many putting them as underdogs to win a match. As always, the hopes of the home side rested squarly on the old firm of Pollock, Kallis and Smith. Kallis turned in another stellar performance, contributing 1 century and 1 half century as he shone to guide the home side to a 1-1 series tie.

Shaun Pollock had one of his more forgetable series with the bat but showed his workmanship with the ball has he lead his team well. The real star of the series was Robin Peterson who claimed 10 wickets in only 1 match in a losing side.

The statistics table above shows the enormous impact Jacques Kallis has on his side. Graeme Smith was tormented by Brett Lee all series and Kallis was the only batsman to truely put his hand up.
