Story THE VIDEOCON CUP (India Vs Sri Lanka)

That was really awful bowling by the Indians! Except Tendulkar, no one else was economical. Sri Lanka brought this game close due to those 4 run outs! Or else, it was Sri Lanka all the way!

India have to pick up soon!

Irfan Pathan and Murali Kartik out of third ODI
R.P.Singh and Suresh Raina likely to play..

After India's shoddy performance with the ball in the 2nd ODI at Mohali, the Indian team has been dealt with another blow. Irfan Pathan, who has come under the scanner for his listless performances in both ODIs has reportedly twisted his ankle while fielding in the practice sessions and will not be available for selection in the 3rd ODI today at Jaipur.

A Chance at last...

Murali Kartik who bowled well and snared 4 wickets at Mohali is down with a stomach bug and will not feature in today's match. Rudra Pratap Singh and Suresh Raina are the likely replacements with Sreesanth the supersub.

This news will be viewed with apprehension by the public as an unchanged side has been anounced for the 3 ODIs and after India's failure to defend 329 runs, the omission of Zaheer Khan and L.Balaji might not go down well with a vast section of the Indian fan base.

Fans protest over the omission of Ganguly...

Fans demonstrating in a procession in Kolkata, Sourav's home town.

There were wide spread protests all over the country and few stray cases of riots over the omission of Sourav Ganguly from the Indian team for the 3rd to 5th ODIs of the Videocon Cup 2005.

Ganguly was left from the team for the first 2 ODIs on medical grounds. Though that decision raised a few eyebrows, the majority were confident that Ganguly would be back after proving his fitness.

Ganguly announced his return to form with two brilliant innings against the Zimbabwe President's XI in the Duleep Trophy.

Ganguly roars back to form..

But the former captin's omission from the squa now has posed serious questions over his future in the sport. Fans have not taken well to this news and especially after the two losses in the opening games in the Videocon Cup the call for the reinstation of Ganguly has peaked up.

Ganguly calls for clarity in selection policy...

gangint8ir.jpg

His last bow?

After his omission for the next three ODIs in the Videocon Cup against Sri Lanka, former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly has called for more clarity in the selection process. Speaking to the press in his home town Kolkata, Ganguly said

"Its really surprizing that we are not able to see clarity in selection from the biggest cricket board in the world. One can only show his resume and it is entirely upto the officials to select or reject. But we need more clarity in knowing why"
On the team's performance..
"Its heartening to see the youngsters perform at the highest level. But trying out a lot of them at the same time and especially against the No 2 side in the world is certainly not advisable. They must have proper giudance from more experienced players in the respective fields. A coach can tell you much, but only the guidance of seniors in the field can direct them."
Ganguly also asked his fans to be patient...

"Its amazing that the fans go to any level for me. But at this moment, I would request you all to be patient and believe. Belief will do wonders."

Chappell asks the fans to trust...

More worries to ponder about...

After the two nerve tingling losses, Indian coach Greg Chappell and his policy of selecting youngsters over more experienced players have come under fire from a vast section of the public. Chappell has asked the Indian fans to have trust in the Men in Blue. Speaking from the team hotel in Jaipur, Chappell said

"Its true that we have lost the first two games. But this is by no means the end of the series. We still have 5 games to go and its too early to predict any result"

on the team's performance

"Though we all are not happy with the losses, they have not been overwhelming. We had to fight tooth and nail each time around. We hope we can turn things around. Jaipur looks a fine enough place for that."
on Ganguly's omission

"Sourav has returned to form, but its the selector's decision really"
on the team for the 3rd ODI

"Irfan has tweaked his ankle while a fielding drill and Kartik is down with a bug. They need a break and we are looking at R.P.Singh and Raina to fill the void"
on the fans irritation.

"All we can ask is a bit of patience and a lot of trust on us. The boys are giving their absolute all in the field and they certainly need their public behind them. I can assure you that we will not bow down by ourselves"
