Battle Of The Champions --- Part V
( CT Finals Edition )

Welcome to the " Battle of The Champions ", a special edition for the grand finals.

With Bangladesh,NewZealand,India and WestIndies reaching the semifinals, India & NewZealand managed to progress to the finals which is going to be the climax of this whole tournament.

The interesting thing, India and NewZealand have already met each other in Champions Trophy Finals which was held in Kenya in the year 2000. So for the second time after 6 years, these two are meeting again.

CT2000,Kenya ---- A FlashBack!

Quarter Finals :

* Australia met India in the quarter-final for the second successive time and again it was the Asian side that left the world champions red-faced. This victory was even more remarkable considering the fact that the Indian team came into this tournament under the backdrop of the match-fixing scandal which resulted in a life ban for Mohammad Azharruddin, and a five-year ban for Ajay Jadeja.

* Meanwhile,New Zealand edged Zimbabwe to place themselves in Semi Finals.

Semi Finals :

* South Africa faced India while Pakistan squared off against New Zealand. The first edition of the ICC Champions Trophy threw many surprises. This one too wasn't different as the Sourav Ganguly-led Indian side stunned defending champions South Africa while New Zealand spoiled Pakistan's dream of booking a dream final with India.

Finals :

* Going into the final, India were the overwhelming favourites and after eliminating Australia and South Africa, the 'Men in Blue' were expected to steamroll the Kiwis. However, a magical century from all-rounder Chris Cairns earned New Zealand their first major tournament victory. Indian captain Sourav Ganguly, who scored successive tons in the semi-final and the final, bore a despondent look while his New Zealand counterpart was full of smiles.

Finally Stephen Fleming lifted the trophy with great pride after defeating India in the finals! These two meeting again has raised the expectations on both the teams further.. Can India take an revenge for defeat??? or Can Fleming lift the trophy again with same pride????

Men In Blue!

Well, after a tough battle against Pakistan in preliminary round, The team India was able to get an convincing victory over WestIndies in semifinals. It was almost an one sided game through out where Indian team outsmarted in all aspects of the game -- batting, bowling and fielding! It was quite suprise to see such a low ressistance from Windies but it India who played an better cricket in the end! Tendulkar maintained his supreme form in both the games i.e in prelims as well as in semifinals where he scored back to back centuries.. So the main focus is on this man who is expected to dominate in Finals too!

Men In Black!

One of the hardworking sides in cricket, NewZealand continued to shine unde Fleming's excellent captaincy! It was a battle for Kiwis in both prelims as well as in semi finals. But it was bowlers who did the job on both the occassions. In Semi finals, NZ batting was very average & full credits to Bangla bowlers. But Kiwis bounced back well in bowling and ofcourse Bangla battled hard & there was chance for Bangla to make it till the end, but it was Astle's unexpected Hattrick made Kiwis to reach the semi finals. Bond was consistenst as usual with his five wickets hold.

Captain's Speak!

" Tendulkar is also an Ordinary man who can commit mistakes ", Says NZ Skipper, Fleming!

: Well, this final is going to be an challenging one.... We are prepared to face it! Our bowlers are in fine form especially Bond. So we need to just be cautious in batting. We have to wait and see the conditions tomrw to select our final XI.. Prbly we wud like to go with the same winning combination. With Winning the Finals already in 200o against India has a slight advantage though playing in their home conditions is never going to be easy! Their main batman, Sachin Tendulkar have had an nice series so far but he is also an ordinary human being like us who can make mistakes.. So anything can happen.. Its going to be challenging for us to bowl against their top order... So looking foreward for a great game ahead! :)

Indian Captain expresses his confidence,

dravidspeakssf7.jpg
: Well, we are working hard for the finals which is definitely going to be a tough contest! Both the teams have reached this level after some tough battles. Regarding the batting line up, its not yet decided and we have to wait for the conditions tomrw and adjust accordingly! Also, we are quite satisfied with our performance in this series so far & hope to continue the same in finals too.. Lets see what happens in tmrw's game. ;)

Thus both the captains are very eager for the start of this grand finals.. With both the teams looking strong, Its quite hard to predict the winner.. But all the exciting actions Coming Live Straight Away only On StarSports.. Watch and enjoy it...Till then Bye from the studio! :)

New Zealand have the experience of winning the competition in 2000. But India have the big advantage of playing at home. And good to see Fleming putting pressure on Sachin. For his sake I hope it doesnt backfire.

I think if we can bat first and get 320, we can win.
If we bowl first, restrict India to 200 - 250..

Come on Fleming, Vincent and Vettori!

Great updates Suren, and WORLD CHAMPIONS everyone makes mistakes but an Ordinary Man!? I am actually with Zorax for this one  .... Kill em Sachin! :D

Im a fence sitter

I want the Indians to win because Fleming is too cocky and Tendulkar will score a 200 here!

Where is the Final being played ?
Btw,It would be a repeat of the CT 2000 Nairobi with only the winners changing...
