OK! In the "Pressure EA for a full editor" thread I have said I will try and find out the format for the commentary files ...

What I think I know so far:

There are 7,082 () commentary files in .asf format located in pbp.big which lives in the /Cricket 2005/data/pc/audio directory.

At the moment I am unable to play or convert these files, but I am working on it. Will post again as the situation develops.

Please feel free to leave suggestions, tips, comments, etc

only one member know how to import commentary in cricket2005
i think kamrandahir or khanjee

Well, I worked out that you can play the .asf files using wimpditt. You just open one as though you are going to import it and then you hit "Preview".

It seems to me that we should just be able to extract the .asf files from pbp.big, create an mp3 of the replacement commentary and then use wimpditt to convert the mp3 into an .asf with the same name as the bit of commentary you want to replace. You should then be able to use BigGUI to import the replacement .asf into pbp.big.

However, there are a lot of files to go thru - a HUGE job. Still probably only necessary to replace things like the 'chatx.asp' files and such to make a good improvement.

Anyways, did you try and do it this way aussie_first? (I have a terrible feeling the answer will be "yes")

P.S. I don't have time to try this at the moment, but will give it a go in the next day or two.

Nope. I've tried this at length. That's why I'm convinced we need to know the exact settings for the audio files. If you just use any old settings the new files won't play in the game.

DOH! I was pretty sure at least one of you modding legends would have tried this. I had a feeling that it was not gonna be that simple :crying

Mmm-kay  Well we will just have to discover this information. This looks like it will be a tough one.

:upray :upray :upray

Some of the files are not identifiable with this util. The only info that comes up is the file name :( I am wondering if it's because I need to install some obscure codecs. At least we know that some of the commentary files are mp3's. :p

Hey, i Just Edited A Few Commentory Files to try out if it works
but Once again ALL MY EFFORTS WERE In-Vain

The Main Problem is That Richie Chants The Same Thing Even If I Replaced
it in the BIG File. i Thought that there must be something wrong with the BIGgui
which imports the commentory to the BIG File, but When i Extracted my imported/ edited file, its the one which i had edited !!! :crying

If This Confuses You, Here is an example :-

Orignal Commentary - Tendulkar
Edited Commentary - Kartik (MY Name )

When I play The Game , Richie Chants "Tendulkar" instead Of "kartik".
Then i Extracted The File That i Edited/Imported From The BIG.
When I Played it using DITTY Importer, it says "kartik"

Now The Question Arises - How The Hell Does Richie Chant The Same Thing
Which Has been Edited By something Else. If The Edited File is not working,
There should atleast be a silence.

Looking at the number of files and their names, I suspect that there are at least 2 versions of Richie saying each player's name - maybe more for the more popular players. Bear in mind that whole sentences are broken up into separate files so that player/team/stadium names can be inserted. And you will hear the same player's name said differently depending on the sentence it's being inserted into.

So it might just depend on finding and replacing EVERY version of that player's name to get the result you want. 7,802 files = big job
