Hooper here with an ICC III review for people still deciding whether to buy this game.
Here are the main features:
- Hawk-Eye, looks good, but not really worth it. Is just an unneeded novelty. Will be used extensively for stories
.
- Match-Engine, seems to have been improved in One-Day cricket. Not vastly changed. May discover new things as I play.
- Menus, looks more modern. Is nice and refreshing. But the disappointing fact is that there is only one background skin.
- 3D Animations, looks very similar to BLIC07 to be honest. Personally, am not all that fussed with the new animation highlights.
- Stats, seem pretty up to date and correct. But the fact that the developers still can't manage to change player's status, i.e Shoaib Malik is still classified as a bowler.
- How players perform, this time around, the players have changed in the the way that perform and how their form is. For example, Andrew Symonds in previous ICC installments was pathetic and couldn't bowl. Now he seems like an all-rounder.
- Patchability, seeing that the developers have now changed the sound files, at the moment, custom commentary is not able to be added in-game. Also, there is no way to change "skins" or the background picture during non-match events. Also, the fact that they have made everything .pub files makes things difficult.
- Gameplay, a major improvement is the fact that now you can captain a County team and any International team of your choice! This will make all non-England fans happy! All tables, coaching and budgeting seems unchanged.
- Options, more and better options have been included this time around . Now you have the ability to switch a range of sound and visual options.
The verdict: International Cricket Captain III is a good, solid cricket management game that I'm sure will be very popular with the past fans of the ICC series. The addition of the new animated 3D graphics have made the game look more refreshing and actually give fans a reason to buy the game (after the absolute no point of buying ICC06 if you already had ICC05). Gameplay is good, as always and I'm sure you will be hooked and have to lose sleep for the first few weeks. But, the game isn't that much of an improvement in gameplay, but the new modern-ized look will make you want to play this instead of the bland ICC06 gray menus.
Buy this game if: You don't have ICC06 and you want a cricket simulation game that will get you hooked and wanting more!
