No, you've been "tricked" into buying games because of 1 review. I never buy a game without checking plenty of reviews before, unless I've been really excited about it. As for the games you mentioned:

Fifa 04 was a good game. Certainly a very playable game, I enjoyed that Fifa. GameRankings has the average rating at 80% as well. Good game.
Fifa 07 was also a very playable game, with some good features. Again, on GameRankings has a press average of close to 80%
Pro Evo 6 was very limited on 360. This is then shown in the GameRankings average with 79.2%
THUG 2 was a bloody good game, and you've clearly got no taste. I massively enjoyed THUG 2, far better than the original. Press average of 84% as well.
FlatOut 2 I've never played myself, but seems very average, and is just another example of IGN massively overplaying their reviews. It happened alot in the past, they've improved now though, but were certainly never paid by developers to give their game a good review.

None of those games are awful, but just above average. The reason you were dissapointed is because you just took the advise of ONE reviewer, maybe 2 at best. I don't think you can just ignore game reviews just because of a few poor experience with IGN reviews, they were well known for overplaying reviews in the past. GameRankings is your friend. 1Up also good far better game reviews.

Well I don't read reviews full stop. If a game is good enough people will tell you about it. I thought the demo for this was far too easy but I am going to but it because of the class (if compltely unrealistic) advert. A more accurate advert would have been United scoring and then sitting back for 85 minutes before conceding as opposed to an action packed 3-3 draw.

It doesn't look that rubbish to me, but I'd never trust any reviews nowadays - most of them are biased one way or another, the reviewers are not proper fans of the sports (football in this case) and they don't pick up on a lot of things.

PES 08 getting scores of 9/10 last year just prove the lack of credibility that magazines/online reviews have.

Agreed. PC Gamer, for example, have always had a Pro Evo bias, even when the Fifa games were quite good, so I'll be taking their Fifa 09 review with a pinch of salt.

i did try out the Demo and i must and will say it has great development than FIFA 08 especially related to graphics.the players look realistic.

Im having a stroll into town next Friday and getting me a copy. Might then have the afternoon off and come home early to get a few games in. First game Newcastle vs Tottenham on Easy, naturally.

I've pre-ordered PC version from www.gameplay.co.uk, only going to cost me ?19.99 as well, thanks to being able to spend a whole load of loyalty points!

I've never pre-ordered from mail order before, what happens? Do they despatch it timed to arrive on day of release, or do they just despatch it on day of release?

Either way, only a week to go...

They usually send it about a day before. If they are any good it'll be there on release day.

Ayo, Can anyone post in game screens from the demo PC?

and is it good?

thanks b.

I quite like it! It could do with better heading physics and ball physics, but it plays a good, challenging game of football that is fun and unpredictable. The collision detection adds a lot to the game. 'Out of the box', the demo is slightly disappointing, due to the difficulty being set far too low. But put this file in your Fifa 09 demo root directory, and it improves the game no end. You can also edit it to suit your own requirements. There are a few things in the demo that really need fixing, the ball is the size of a basketball and there are some glitches, but I am hopeful they'll be taken care of in time for the full game.
