We've got a thread for the best right back in the world, but that's a 2 way race, with Alves and Ramos hogging most of the votes. I think a more interesting discussion would be the worlds greatest Play-maker. This is a guy who sits in the centre of midfield, distributes play around the team, makes the killer pass, is generally quite attacking, and mainly contributes with assists. I've added a poll with the guys that I feel are up there, any other ideas feel free to throw them at me, and I'll add them to the poll.

Personally, I'd go for Cesc Fabregas or Andres Iniesta. Fabregas will be my pick for the benefit of the poll though. Cesc just oozes class, he's got a fantastic range of passing, always looking to make the killer pass, makes a hell of alot of goals for Arsenal, and contributes with a few himself. He's a seriously class player, and for my money the best in the world.

Opinions?

Apart from the fact that Bosingwa has 3 votes tied with Ramos and Alves, in that thread ;)

All those are world class players, and I doubt anyone would disagree. I'll just go through the list one by one:

Fabregas: Absolutely brilliant player. Links midfield and attack perfectly and has great vision. He also scores a lot of goals. I would say he definitely deserves to be in this list, but he's not the best.

Iniesta: Not seen a lot of Spanish football, but I know Iniesta is one of Barca's best players and probably one of the best players in La Liga. Without watching him I can't really comment that much.

Kaka: Renowned for great passes and great goals, but I don't think he is the greatest at the moment. I think if he continue to play at such a level throughout his career, he will easily be one of the best midfielders to ever play.

Deco: A bit like Fabregas, only more mature and I would say slightly better because of that experience. He stands out in a team of Chelsea's calibre, which is pretty special. I would say he's in the top 3.

Xavi: Again, like Iniesta, I can't say too much about him. From what I have seen of him, he is in the top 5 of this list.

Gerrard: This is one player I will probably be the most biased towards, seeing as I follow Liverpool. His passing is outstanding, and his finishing is even better. Many will disagree (Evo in particular), but with his finishing and passing skills combined, he is my 'Best Play-maker.'

Scholes: A mastermind in the United midfield, and has been for 10 years. Shame to see he's not getting as much first team football as his skill deserves, but that's due to the fact that United have so much quality, and that he is nearing the end of his career.

Hernandez: Don't know anything about him, so can't comment.

Riquelme: One of my favourite Argentinian players. Again, not seen a lot, but his work ethic is just superb and he has tremendous amounts of skill.

So my list in order:

1) Gerrard
2) Deco
3) Riquelme
4) Xavi
5) Kaka
6) Scholes
7) Iniesta
8) Fabregas

That's fair enough I suppose. At least you've justified your argument somewhat. I don't agree, but it's down to opinion at the end of the day, they're all so close. My rankings would be:

1) Fabregas
2) Iniesta
3) Deco
4) Gerrard
5) Xavi
6) Kaka
7) Scholes
8) Riquelme
9) Guti

They're all awesome though tbh.

I agree with what your saying about all those players being awesome. It's a great list. Just shows the quality of players in the midfield nowadays. It's definitely a more attacking game than it was say 20 years ago.

The obvious one would be Kaka because he's just amazing, but over the last 10 years Paul Scholes has been absolute dynamite. Such an underrated player and one of England's finest ever players. He's also the best ever ginge.

Look how often United struggle when they don't have Scholes in the team. There's just a little spark missing for them.

Also, I don't understand how people can vote for Gerrard as the best playmaker in the list when he's not even the best playmaker in his team. Gerrard isn't used as a playmaker; Xabi Alonso is and he's amazing. Gerrard is a fantastic player, but I wouldn't consider him a playmaker tbh.

Agreed, Lampard and Gerrard aren't fit to lace Scholesy's boots when he was at his best, obviously he's passed that now, but he still shows glimpses of the old Scholes and still is a very, very good player.

I'm gonna forget about proper central-midfielders like Fabregas as although they are creative, I'd look for someone more inbetween the strikers and the midfield. I'd say Kaka probably, over those two nights a couple of years ago, he ripped open a very decent United defence, and looked unstoppable, probably the best performance from an opposing team player that I've seen at Old Trafford.

What about fat Ronaldo?

Fabregas was more of a playmaker last year but since they sold Flamini he has to do the hard work as well.

Gerrard would have to get up to make any of those killer passes.

Xavi and Deco are my favourites. Since Deco has left Barca, Xavi has been even better. There were rumours of him coming to us last month, I would spunk myself if it happened but it won't. I'd swap him for Ronaldo.

Scholes KO's all of the people on that list prime for prime though.

Lampard is one of the best in the world. He makes tackles, passes, scores goals, had 2 fantastic seasons and is in brilliant form right now. Much more pleasant player to watch than Gerrard.

Fabregas has superb ball retention and is the heart of our team but the only criticism I have of him is that he's not scoring nearly enough goals at the moment.

Has to be Kaka for me. It's just self explanatory and the reason why he's one of the best players in the world. He gets forward, makes passes, gets assists and grabs goals. Fantastic player. I think that Fabregas could be even better in a couple of years. I really like Iniesta, he's under-rated in my opinion. Scholes in his prime was just fantastic, been watching Premiership Years the past few days and it shows how amazing Scholes was. Xavi is also fantastic. Deco is very good as well but I wouldn't put him in the same league as the others. Gerrard isn't as great as the others either. Like evertonfan already said, Alonso is better than Gerrard. His passing is superb and probably the best in the league. I think Guti is a very good player too but not as good as Kaka, Iniesta, Fabregas etc. Can't comment about Riquelme because I haven't seen him much.

Paul Scholes in his prime would have walked into any midfield in the world. He was just that good.

Lampard is a very good player but just hasn't performed in the big games. That is what makes Gerrard a much better bet in midfield because time and time again he delivers the goods when it matters. I also wouldn't have Fabregas near the top 10 either.

I really wouldn't like to pick the best though, they are all great players.

According to me, Guti's role is very important to Real Madrid. He is very good in finding the attacking players and the way his passes cuts between defenders to find a forward is incredible. Obviously scoring goals is important, but the amount of assists that Guti provides more than makes up for his lack of goals.

I would not call Iniesta a playmaker because he is almost like a forward, while Xavi is the one who distributes the ball.

How on earth has Gerrard got 6 votes? Do people even watch football these days? He's a world class attacking centre midfielder, but he isn't a playmaker. Scholes and Alonso are perfect examples of playmakers because they...ya know, make plays.

I'm voting Cesc just to make sure that the hypocritical penis doesn't win.
