Just read an interesting article regarding the situation involving Eion Morgan the Irishman being selected in Englands initial 20/20 squad.

Cricinfo - Ireland frustration at Morgan call

Poses a real question as to why England continually play players who aren't even English? They should be focusing on developing their own talent instead. Why did England play Amjad Khan? Especially when there is much better English talent out there. Why did they play Darren Pattinson? Not only has he lived in Australia since he was a child he couldn't even get a game for Victoria this season.

The players are ultimately the ones that choose to play for England. Not our fault that decent players want to play for us, and if they're good enough we pick them!

Explain how a person such as Saqlain Mushtaq and Kevin Pietersen have to wait four years to play for England, while Irish players are welcome to flip flop between two countries?

And cricketmad, I think Amjad Khan qualified to play for England by living there for 4 years and he played for Kent for quite a bit of his career, if I'm correct (and I'm probably wrong)

Why name it England then  stealing players and getting cups. What an image :clap

WC, it doesn't matter

Not like England's gonna win the T20 WC, or the ICC Champions Trophy, or the World Cup anytime soon.

By the time they qualify to play for England they consider themselves as good as English. It's not like we're poaching players that don't want to play for us just to stop others taking them. As for Morgan, he's Irish, so has no option but to play for England if he wants to play Test cricket, which he is good enough to play. Why bother playing Associate cricket when you can play Test cricket for England? It's his choice, we don't force players to play for England.

You think we pick pocket the players? Take a look at the Canadian team!
Ollie, theres only 2 immigrants in that team. Rizwan Cheema and Khurram Chohan.

The rest are born and raised in Canada.

But KP, how does Morgan play for Ireland when not on England duty, and then magically hops into the England team (I think Ed Joyce did this too)

How does that work, but Saqlain and Pietersen had to wait 4 years.

Yeah I'm also interested in how that works. How can somebody who played for Ireland in the world cup qualifiers TODAY be selected in another nations squad?

I'm not entirely sure how it works. I think he's allowed to play for Ireland until he makes his England debut, and because he's had so many years in County Cricket he's qualified for England. Pietersen played for the England A side before making his England debut against Zimbabwe iirc, and that's the same with Morgan. I'm pretty sure Morgan's Ireland career will be over once he plays for England.

Cheema, Mulla, Bagai, Dhaniram, Jyoti, Bhatti, Baidwan, Chohan, Osinde. All born outside of Canada. More than the two you picked out.

I think it's pretty disappointing that Eion Morgan is thinking for himself instead of for his country. I believe that with Morgans help Ireland will gain Test status before he retires. He is only 22. So there would be plenty of time for that to happen.

Once Ed Joyce is allowed to play for Ireland again they would have a quality batting line-up featuring Joyce, Morgan, the O'Brien's, Porterfield and with the bowling of Rankin they have the talent to win matches and eventually gain Test status.

I'm sure most countries would do exactly the same if a prodigious talent moved to your country you'd want him to play as quickly as possible. I think with the KP thing he got a british passport through his grandmother, he didnt have to wait for 4 years to gain the citzenship it just took him a while to get going in the UK.

You would probably find alot of them would have been raised in Canada once migrating from an early age.
