Well, seems we've been hearing a lot of rot about the death of ODI cricket lately.

The Australian cricket administrators (in their infinite wisdom), have decided that Australia trouncing England 6-1 last year, and then flogging the hapless West Indians and Pakistanis at home means that ODI cricket is now dead (much less the pointless series that no one really wanted to watch anyway).

So (in their infinite wisdom), they have decided to give us more 20/20 cricket (dressed up as some ridiculous split innings nonsense), and thus overload us with more boring meaningless cricket in attempt to kill 20/20 too.

10/10 anyone?

Come on, a few games of the domestic one dayers in February in the split innings format hardly means the death of cricket and one day cricket, they gotta try it out some time.

Why?

Slowcoach added 7 Minutes and 5 Seconds later...

To postpone the fact that Bangladesh will be bowled out for 154, by giving them a 2 hour break at 5-72, and letting Australia bat for 20 overs in the hope that they'll bat like they care more about scoring runs than boosting their averages?

Pure genius, let's schedule more 7 match series between Australia and Bangladesh, god knows our reserves could do with some meaningful cricket while our overworked stars are rotated, and our overworked fans watch football.

ODI cricket isn't dead because the Cricket Australia administrators decide to make decisions when they're high.

The 'death of ODI cricket' is overrated. It's as healthy as ever, we're just trying something out for the future.

I was gonna address the issue of the over-proliferation of meaningless matches in an already overpacked cricket schedule by reducing the amount of cricket played and thereby restoring the balance of supply and demand...but then I got high.

I dont see the big deal, our domestic one day competition is perfect for trialling this stuff, as they have done in the past with many changes to the ODI game which were trialled here. They arent changing the whole season or adding more games, arent they only trialling the changes for 6 matches anyway? I dont like the idea personally but have nothing against trying stuff out in domestic cricket rather than international. I like ODI's, more so than ever, it is a much more even playing field these days and resembles real cricket a whole lot more than 20 20 cricket, so in that respect I hope it stays the same. But I highly doubt it will remain unchanged come 5 years time once 20 20 either has become even more huge or it has run its course.

Yeah, I don't see what's wrong with ODI cricket either. Some say it's caught in a no man's land between Twenty20 and Test cricket but I like the balance it provides between the two formats. Play less of it and give ODI matches and series' more context in general and it should be fine in my opinion.

I'd rather have our board being proactive and doing something to give the players something to play for and the fans something to looks forward too rather than sitting back and giving us the same product every game.

Let the minnows play more 20 20, like when they used to play more one dayers than tests. Keep the tests and one dayers for mainly the top teams. The Eng/Aus series just finished was fabulous, big crowds, and it was a fabulous series. All the cricket boards want 20 20 anyway. If Holland or Ireland become a competitive 20 20 team i'm sure they wont mind not playing that many odi's, it would be huge for them. Just a thought.

ODI will never die, Tests a percent can but ODI never. People love watching ODI's then T20's(Atleast majority here on PC ;))

I agree I hate the idea of split innings games

But will be interesting to see the split innings!!

Sorry but Pawar recently said in an interview he expects a bright future for ODI's (along with Tests and T20s).

No it wouldn't it would merely protract the middle overs into two innings not get rid of these middle overs which they perceive to be "boring" something I disagree with in the first place.
