Kushal Choudhury disappointed on not getting to pick AB de Villiers as his player likeness, says camaraderie is more important than anything else

KL-Rahul-2-lg.jpg

TPCL Staff.

18:28 IST

During our interview with star player Kushal Choudhury who is the most expensive player in this season mentioned that he wasn't disappointed on his team losing in the FC Finals to the Royal Mavericks. He was pleased in continuing with the same franchise from where he stared off his TPCL journey and wants to stay with the team for further more years. When asked about his century in one of the FC Finals, he said he doesn't even remember it since it didn't help his team in winning. But he also said that making it to the Finals was really satisfying considering their team got off to a slow start.

Kushal also made it very clear that he would be ok to see his team do well but only winning will make him happy. He also says that the camaraderie in his team is as important as winning and he wants to give that a first priority.

Let us have a look at our interview:-
Ok so we have got Wild Force team member Kushal Choudhury (@LiveLoveABD ) alongside us.

Interviewer: So how does it feel to be a part of the camp with whom you've played for ages? (The Amigos which later became Xtreme Rebelz and now The Wild Force)
Kushal:
I'm very happy to be part of the same team. Hopefully, I can be here for more years and complete the ambition of winning the titles. We as a team are trying to also ensure that we keep the core similar in the following years. Helps team camaraderie which I feel is the main objective of participating in such a thing.

I: Did you expect to go for such a huge amount in TPCL?
K:
No. I knew it would be a reasonable amount but not the most lucrative.

I: How did it feel to get out on a duck in the Final and getting a 70-ball century to follow that up in the 2nd innings?
K:
I thought I had a poor season last year. Being in and out, my own activity wasn't the best in the first part. We didn't win the titles so yes, the century is alright but not something I'll remember. I'd actually forgotten about it already. As I said, the titles are all that matter.

I: Do you feel disappointed that Rebelz lost both Finals to the Mavericks, especially that 2nd Final when you needed to defend 394?
K:
I think we picked up a lot in the second half of the season so even making the finals was good. Honestly, losing the finals are never easy but we had too much going on in the first half and perhaps didn't really deserve it.

I: Does it make any difference for you now since you are playing for a team that is now going through a transition from having a lot of star players?
K:
No. We just try to do our best. We cannot control the results but if we stick together for further seasons as well, we can ultimately win the big one.

I: Are you disappointed not getting to pick AB de Villiers as your player identity for back to back seasons?
K:
There really needs to be a rule that this cannot happen. And this is not just from an interview POV, I really mean this.

I: Ok, last question. How far do you think your team can go in this tournament?
K:
It's a simulation and if we do our best I am okay. Only winning will make me happy but as I said before as well that the camaraderie is the most important thing to me.

All those things prove that he is very hungry for the win but is spirited and wants his side to do well. The Wildforce will begin their campaign with a T20 warm-up against the Delhi Capitals and Wild Park.

Trolling doesn't affect us, we are here to defend our titles- Dikshansh Darshan

otcDyULA.jpg

TPCL Staff.

18:13 IST

The Mavericks Captain made a bold comment when he said that he & his would not back down even after winning both FC & OD tournament last season in the pre-season interview. He also said that Mavericks would defend their titles successfully. Adding to this he also said that, this is not overconfidence but the team's confidence upon themselves.

Dikshansh Darshan is extremely excited for this season as his team is all prepared to take all the trolls from the opposition and shut them with their performance. Having the beautiful Dharamsala as their home ground further adds to their positive atmosphere because of the serenity of the nature in the Himalayas. He is also confident that he and his side could create history by becoming the first team to win all 3 tournaments in a season in TPCL history.

Let us have a look at the interview we had with him:-

Interviewer: So Dikshansh how does it feel to be the defending Champions of OD & FC tournament of TPCL?
Dikshansh: It feels pretty awesome to be the defending champions... this gives an extra confidence to the team to repeat the same, I would like to thank the TPCL Management team for organizing such a wonderful league and all the players from the last season to make this possible.

Interviewer: Does it still hurt to lose in the Super Over in T20 Final to the Lannisters last season?
Dikshansh: It still hurts me, we'd got all three trophies in our debut season but due any outdated rule we lost the finals, but we have plans for this season to make it cover and get the trophy this year.

Interviewer: Did you feel any difficulty to adopting the change from being the FC Captain to giving it away to your team mate Yash Hirani mid season?
Dikshansh: It wasn't a difficult decision for me because there was a lot pressure on me at that time that affected both team and my individual performance so for the betterment of team I decided to step down from captaincy.

Interviewer: What makes the Mavericks such highly talked team across the TPCL? How have you guys been so difficult to beat for the opposition?
Dikshansh: Initially in our debut season we were trolled a lot by our opposition, but this didn't affected our confidence we worked hard made strategies for every match and the balance in our team made it difficult for the opposition to beat us.

Interviewer: Does trolls like RCB lite affect the moral of your team? How do you look to counter that?
Dikshansh: No at all, in fact RCB is not a weak team it's their bad luck that they haven't won any titles yet, but we have :D. we doesn't take it seriously we know who we are and what we have to do to shut the mouths of people trolling us.

Interviewer: How does it feel to have the beautiful stadium of Dharamshala as your home ground?
Dikshansh: I've got no words to describe this feeling, It feels like playing cricket in heaven... Even the stadium is not big like other teams have but I can assure every team will enjoy playing here.

Interviewer: Will there be any pressure on your side this season considering that you are the OD & FC defending Champions?
Dikshansh: There is not much pressure as we got a well balanced squad after the auctions, everyone in the team is very hard working, focused and we are well prepared to defend out titles and to add a new title also!

Interviewer: Will you guys be able to defend your titles?
Dikshansh: We are not over confident, but we have have confidence WE WILL!

We are winning all the 3 trophies!- Modi

maxresdefault.jpg

TPCL Staff.

16:17 IST

Bad Boys player Lalit Kumar Modi have made a bold prediction about this year's TPCL. He believes that the Bad Boys are well capable of winning all 3 trophies this time in TPCL. He also thinks that the Bad Boys(formerly known as Lannisters) are the best ever side in the history of TPCL. And rightly so, the Lannisters made it to OD & FC finals in the innaugral edition of TPCL eventually beating the Son of Pitches(now The Avengers) in the FC Final. They also made it to OD & T20 Final in TPCL 2 with a super over victory in the T20 final.

He has warned everyone that this time the Bad Boys will be a lot more unforgiving and meaner with their opponents. They would not look to give an respite to their opponents and would want to go for the kill!!!! When asked about who is the real Bad Boy in their dressing room, he replied that no one can be as bad as him and went on to say that team-mate Rudi Struwig is very much like him in the sense of being a bad guy. He also said that the presence of Indranagar Ka Gunda would've made this side even stronger but he wrote him off saying that his demands with the management was way too high.

He gave a lot of credit to Rudi & Jack aka Undecided Flaj aka Fadhl Rukanah for making a real strong core for the team right since the innaugral season of TPCL.

Interviewer: So Mr.Modi why does your side call themselves as Bad Boys? Because, I believe they are pretty good and one of the strongest team of the tournament since it's inception. So what exactly is the ideology behind the name Bad Boys?
Lalit Modi: We are strongest for sure. No doubt in that. I feel the owners wanted a change and in reality too if you see, change is the only constant. Something new and cool was what we wanted. So Bad Boys is sort of perfect for us. And if you look at our squad, you will find most of the PC's Bad Boys are in it. Yes someone like asprin aka Gunda surely needed to be in here but the team management was in no mood to meet his over the top demands. That advertisement he did got into his head. We need people with head on their shoulders.

Interviewer: Who do you think is the Real Bad Boy in your side? And why do you think so?
Lalit Modi: Haha. Lalit Kumar Modi. Who else? Everyone knows about my under the table dealings but no one can stand up to me. I think that is more than enough a reason to consider me the Real Bad Boy..
If I have to name someone else after me, Rudi it has to be. The guys is very nice no doubt but, if you trip him, you got to find a place to hide where he won't catch you. If he does, game over!

Interviewer: Does the name change from Lannisters to Bad Boys makes any difference to the approach of this side from how this team has performed in the past dominating almost every team thus far?
Lalit Modi: If it does, it only makes us more lethal and unforgiving. We know what we are capable of and if we play to our potential, none can match us. Not even the so called superheroes!

Interviewer: What is the greatest strength of this team over the years?
Lalit Modi: I think it is that the owners value their players. If you have seen from season 1, we have always wanted those players who wanted to be with us. We don't go around chasing for players who do not wish to play for us. Rudi and Jack deserve all the credit for this tbh. Those two are the real strength of this unit. Two real baddies!

Interviewer: The Mavericks have given a real tough time to this side last season, so do you think this season is an opportunity to not only win the titles but also improve your record against them?
Lalit Modi: They did. But look this is a new season, a new squad. We have got some amazing talent this time round. Mavericks are a good side too but I am sure we have all the bases covered to defeat them and the other 2 teams as well. I am hoping after this season, our record against them will be improved.

Interviewer: Since the time this side beat Sons of Pitches in the FC final in the very first season, they have looked pretty dull winning just 1 game out of 6, so do you think you guys are losing your hold in this format?
Lalit Modi: Ohh I did not know we won only 1 match after that epic win. But it happens and we don't think too much about the numbers. As I said, we have got a great squad this time round, so I am sure we will definitely do better this season.

Interviewer: How far can the Bad Boys go this season?
Lalit Modi: We are winning all the 3 trophies!

The Bad Boys lost their warm-up game against Sunrisers Hyderabad courtesy the cameo from David Warner and excellent bowling from Vijay Shankar along with Bhuvi's brilliance in the Super Over. Fadhl Rukanah said that this was just a warm-up and more profits are coming the Bad Boys way.

We have learned our mistakes from the past- Talha Hayat

Mohammad-Rizwan-Press-Conference.jpg

TPCL Staff.

17:35 IST

The Avenger Co-Owner Talha Hayat said that this is the season for The Avengers to win something and he accepted that they have learnt a thing or two from their past mistakes. He said that they can't really control the past but they can surely make difference in the future by accepting what has gone wrong and improving on it. He is very much confident on his team this time.

When asked about giving away the T20 Captaincy to Asad Raza, Hayat said that he is confident that Asad would take care of the performance of the team whenever they are in crunch situations. He believes that Asad is ready to take this responsibility and hence he found it best to give him the responsibility. On backing his team-mate Nilay Shah, he added that Nilay is one of the most loyal members of their team since he joined them last season and he is all for backing him this season.

The Avengers owners X Æ A - 12 Musk, Talha Hayat, Asad Raza and Appu Kiran will do whatever it takes to make The Avengers win this time.

Interviewer: Things have definitely got wilder for you guys since you are no longer Wildcats but now you are The Avengers. Are the Avengers ready to take on the world to save Earth?
Talha Hayat: Whatever it takes!!!!!

Interviewer: How disappointing was it for you to completely lose the plot in the OD format in the 2nd half of the last season after completely dominating the 1st half especially when your team just didn't take off in the FC and T20 format?
Talha Hayat: The past is beyond our control. We can only learn from it, and I believe we have. Now we have to apply those lessons to the present, and I have full confidence in our team.

Interviewer: We saw you single handedly perform for the Wildcats in the T20 tournament last season and people had assumed that you would continue to lead The Avengers but it is surprising that you have given this role straightaway to Asad Raza aka Peter Parker or I must say Spider-Man. Do you think that he would be able to handle the pressure and turn things around for you in this format?
Talha Hayat: I have complete trust in him, that's why I handed the captaincy to him. He's a great youngster, and I'm sure he'll be a great leader.

Interviewer: Nilay Shah have allowed himself to be retained by you inspite of being benched for 90% of matches last season, so is it because he received a lot of support from the management of this side and your good spirited team environment? Also he seems to have changed his role from an all-rounder who opened the batting to a genuine pacer, is it because he was provided with guidance in where his strength lies?
Talha Hayat: He has put effort in, and improved significantly. He is a very savvy and intelligent person. Most importantly, his loyalty and team spirit are exemplary, and he'll always have our support.

Interviewer: Does grabbing Sod Anderson at the auction helps you to answer a lot of worrying questions in few areas of your side?
Talha Hayat: He is a fantastic addition. I don't need to explain what his experience brings to the team, because it's self-explanatory. With what he has achieved, anyone would want him on his side.

Interviewer: Do you think you can get back your form in the FC format provided that this side has shown a lot of potential in this format? Also they were runners-up in this format in the 1st season of TPCL
Talha Hayat: It's a completely new season, and I believe we're ready to learn from the past, and compete for everything on offer.

Interviewer: Is this the season for the Avengers to actually win something in TPCL?
Talha Hayat: No doubt about it.

Although, The Avengers have lost their warm-up game to Mumbai Indians but they still believe in themselves to bounce back from their solitary loss.

The Royal Mavericks were going through an emotional phase since they lost their teammate Kumar Vishal just a week ago. They decided to have their OD Warm-up game against Trinidad at Port of Spain as a memorial match to give tribute to Vishal. All of the Mavericks team member were really emotionally affected and they wanted to win this match at all costs. There were also members from other teams who wished luck to them for this game.

It was Fadhl Rukunah from the Bad Boys who came forward and said, "Good luck to Kumar Vishal on his new journey from the heaven."
Nilay Shah from The Avengers said, "I just hope that the Mavericks win their warm-up against Trinidad & Tobago Wild as Kumar Vishal deserves this tribute."
Sod Anderson said, "This is your match Vishal, it's all yours."
Kumarjit Biswas was from The Bad Boys was the closest member to Mavericks player Kumar Vishal as he was deep into the flow of his emotions not being able to bear the pain of losing him he went on to say that, "It's a very emotional match for me to follow. I am supporting The Royal Mavericks.... Vishal is watching from the heaven."

Vishal who had shown interest in joining The Avengers before TPCL Auctions was included in The Avengers squad for showing respect to the deceased. Royal Mavericks announced Kumar Vishal as the Captain of this match. The Mavericks won the toss and elected to bowl first.

Trinidad was off to a bad start as they were 11/2 losing Gayle on 2 and Kane Williamson on 4, both of which fell to Bigby Wolf. Although, Sunil Ambris along with Joe Root started to score at a steady rate. Ambris completely unleashed himself and smashed 20 runs off the 8th over of the innings bowled by Prabhul KV. Gokulraj Kamraj ran out Ambris in the very next over as Ambris scored 37 off just 23 balls!!!!

Root and Roston Chase then put on a 83 for the 4th wicket. Joe Root went on to score 107 who was caught by Ali Bubere off the bowling of Anmol Joshi. Trinidad were bowled out on 245 in 44.1 overs. Bigby Wolf was a little expensive as he went on to concede 63 from his 10 overs but managed to pick up 3 wickets. Anmol Joshi made the scoring for Trindad really tough as he got impressive figures of 2/28 off his 7 overs. Prabhul KV also took a couple of wickets. Princess Saffron was the most economical bowler as she conceded just 43 from her 10 overs and took a wicket as well.

Chasing 246 from their 50 overs, Mavericks were off to a terrific start putting on 132 for the first wicket in just 17.5 overs. They seem to have lost their way as they lost Ali Bubere and Dikshansh Darshan in quick succession being reduced to 133/2. But, those were the only wickets as the Mavericks cruised to an 8-wicket victory in just 34 overs. Ali Bubere scored 76 while Gokulraj Kamraj scored 63. Skipper Vishal ended up as the top run-scorer scoring 96* as he got the Man of the Match award.

This made the occasion extremely special and emotional for the Mavericks as Vishal stayed not out in his last innings in TPCL and they eventually won the memorial match giving perfect tribute to their team mate who is no more in this world. May he rest in peace!!!!

TPCL OD Warm-ups Overview

Warm Up Match 2: Republic of Dombivali v/s The Wild Force, Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai

Republic of Dombivali won the toss and elected to bowl first on a flat Wankhede pitch against the star-studded line-up of The Wild Force. Keeping the conditions in mind it was expected that this match was going to be a run-fest. The Wild Force did not disappoint as they put on 176 for their 1st wicket with Indranagar Ka Gunda hammering 102(97). Republic of Dombivali made a spirited comeback as Mitchell Marsh took 3 wickets in an over dismissing Indranagar Ka Gunda for 102, Tarak Sai Pratik for 65 and Mark KKKK for a duck. However, Murtaza Ali's cameo brought back the momentum in The Wild Force team's favour. But soon they were reduced to 253/5. Ashutosh Kushwaha joined Kushal Choudhury at the crease as they put on 86 for the 6th wicket. Kushwaha was dimissed for 72(44). Kushal Choudhury struggled to get the timing right as he crawled his way to a 58-ball 59 on a belter of a surface. The Wild Force though managed to put up a good score on the board scoring 373/6 in their 50 overs.

Chasing 374, Republic of Dombivali opener Rohit Sharma fell on the 2nd ball of the innings lbw to Federico Dipetta. Sanju Samson made full use of the powerplay scoring 36*(27) as RoD were 63/1 in their 10 overs. Shaun Marsh's did not have a good day as he was dismissed by Ed Smith lbw for 25(44). Iyer and Samson put on 63 runs for the 3rd wicket. Pooran joined Iyer at the crease and they both added 154 runs together scoring at almost 10 runs an over. Mildred Ratched dismissed Pooran for 68(49). Iyer went on to score 131. On an evenly balanced pitch at The Oval, The Avengers won the toss and elected to bat first wanting to take full use of the conditions on offer. Harry Brookes also bowled an extremely economical spell conceding just 20 in 5.3 overs. One-Day Cup officially renamed to Kumar Vishal Trophy

110291.png

TPCL Management

17:15 PKT

The PlanetCricket League 3.0 management has made the decision of renaming the previously called 'One-Day Cup' into the 'Kumar Vishal Trophy'. It was an unfortunate and unforeseen tragedy that struck right before the start of the tournament, and all members of The PlanetCricket League 3.0's management and the forum users have made no secrets in extending our condolences and well wishes in this difficult time to his friends and family.

Instead of marring a wonderful league with such tragic circumstances, we've decided to celebrate the life of Kumar Vishal, and rename the One-Day Cup after him.

We should remember him for the life he lived and the friend he was, instead of an unfortunate tragedy. Therefore we, the management of The PlanetCricket League 3.0, have made the decision of honoring him properly and gloriously by naming an entire competition after him.

Hopefully we try our (my) best to give him a fitting tribute with our (my) management of the List-A Championship.
