The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is to propose a complete ban on sledging at a meeting with the game's rule-makers next week.

Niranjan Shah, BCCI secretary, told BBC Sport that sledging is damaging the game and that he will raise the issue with the International Cricket Council.

What do people think of this? Personally, I think sledging can be positive and humorous, as long as it doesn't cross the line to offensive. I think its just another way of testing out the opposition.

BCCI is ruining world cricket. I propose to ban the BCCI of having any say on anything.

ahahahahahahahahahaahah, what a bunch of idiots. Funny stuff though.

The scary thing is that they if they cry about it long enough the ICC will probaly crumble and give in.

That's all very well in theory, but who is the appellate authority on what is offensive? There is no law of the land in international cricket, by definition. The Brad Hogg incident should convince you that what is considered banter in one culture can be deeply offensive in another. I have lived on both sides of the Greenwich meridian long enough to know that you can very well be positive and humorous and have a black eye to show for it.

Sledging really has nothing to do with cricket, being the legacy of an entirely different game called My Father Has More Money Than Yours. It is not very popular these days, because it is widely believed that the second player has a winning strategy. It is also considered quite a silly game for grown-ups.

Its also a way to keep them entertained throughout the day.

Not gonna be fun standing out in field all day if u cant have a laugh an a joke with opposition team.

There are words that are outlawed by opposing sides for racism, I don't see why it can't extend beyond that.

Turn up the microphones, but is it ruining cricket? No chance! It improves competitiveness. This would be a terrible decision to make in my opinion.

Banning sledging would have a detrimental effect on the atmosphere of the game and possibly its extention to the middle-lower classes in countries such as England and West Indies.

This is ridicoulous.

When sledging gets racial/abusive/offensive etc that is when it gets to far but what is so bad about talking to each other in the middle? Soon the BCCI will want tape placed over players mouths so people can't speak to each other :D

Sledging is an intergrel part of the game. As Steve Waugh said, Crickt is 30% ability 70% mental.

Steve Waugh did not invented Cricket.

Whos going to draw lines. What business does opposition player has to say anything to batsmen. He should shut his bloody mouth.

Sledging and joking around are diffrent things.

Steve Waugh did not invent cricket, but he played it at the top level for 15 odd years and many have backed and agreed with his opinion.

Sledging has always been in the game, no doubt. Cricket has just evolved past who is a better player. You have to be mentally tough. I don't agree with sledging in the instance we saw in Australia-India series, but before this it had never really been an issue. Players know the line and mostly they stick to it, sometimes they don't and they face bans and fines. Why remove something that we have had solutions to just because of a couple of instances that got blown out of proportion.

Well, That's the problem being the World's Richest Cricket Board. If you aren't amongst the richest boards, Their Players won't start sledging their opponents because they may get a cut off their 10% of their match to 88%. Considering the players playing for the richest board, They have no fear of any bans as they would perhaps accept their Match fee redeemed by teh Central board ICC, Still get as much money for the match as the player who played Sensible cricket, Without sledging, Showing "No"; aggression on any Opponents' players/On field/Off the field, serving for the Boards of the nations compared to as less richer Boards.

That's the reason why richest boards in the world have more sledging players in their teams. Whereas, Less richer, Financially troubled boards stay calm and keep their cool when playing against their oppositions, Example = Sri Lanka, Inspite of getting egged, Stayed calm. Whereas India were to take their place, Would have informed their emporer(the other name of BCCI) to take immediate actions' or else they would take their revenge.

I DON'T THINK That The BCCI's Idea will work. They have imposed many Rules into the cricketing' Arena Which Have Had Failure at written at it's Peak and just turned out to be just a silly & spread rumours, Not nothing more than that. If they were to change anything, They will have to change their mind-set, Not rules, Pools, Dools, Whatsoever and Should try to and use their power properly. As, Many players have been disgusted with the things going on with the BCCI, and have announced retirement in the ende. That's what even Kapil Dev said when he was packed with the hatred of BCCI.
