Interpol is involved in the worldwide search for a Rotorua couple who have run off with millions of dollars worth of Westpac's money.

The couple, who ran the Rotorua service station, are understood to have applied to Westpac Bank for a $10,000 overdraft and mistakenly had $10 million paid into their account.

One News sources tonight suggested Leo Gao and his girlfriend may have headed towards Korea or China with up to $10m dollars mistakenly deposited in their account.

Detective Senior Sergeant David Harvey held a media conference in Rotorua this afternoon, but would not confirm any speculation. When asked where police believed the money had gone, he simply replied "overseas", before refusing to answer any further questions.

What they have done is illegal but would be interesting seeing what other people would do when put in this situation. I probably would give the money back, I wouldn't want to be a fugitive but gee it would be tempting.

I'd promptly give it back as soon as I became aware of what happened.

I'd never live with myself if I didn't.

Oh I think I could, especially with it coming from a bank. Not like they are the nicest people in the world. A beachside mansion, a couple of servants bringing me out chilled drinks, going for a swim and then going for a round of golf on my private golf course. Yep, I could easily live with myself ;)

Would have asked for another 10k overdraft.

I'd go for a plastic surgery, make myself a new identity and buy an island in the carribean and settle there forever.

And you reckon you'll get all that for ?10m?

I wouldn't keep it because like syl said I wouldn't want to be a fugitive for the rest of my life. Running away isn't the way to live, even if you can buy mansions every time you settle for a bit in another place. :p
