While half listening to radio coverage of the latest NZ v Eng test I heard something quite interesting.

Basically it was an opinion that IPL and ICL wouldn't be a real success until Indian's cheered when Brett Lee bowled Sachin Tendulkar for a duck.

As a county fan, I'd be cheering my ass off if one of Kent's bowlers bowled, say, Pietersen for a duck in county. So my question to Indian fans is do you see yourselves caring more about your IPL team than your allegiance to Indian cricket and its superstars?

good point, I second that, I don't mind Ribery or any other Bayerner kicking anyother French men's ass in Club Footy.

Are you French? Because if you aren't it isn't the same thing.

We will come and watch the IPL, and we will also cheer our superstars when they play for india. you think the indians might not like it, but i would say they wont care.

I'm not saying you wont like it, I'm not saying you won't go to watch and I'm not saying that you wont care. What I am saying is that Indian cricket fans always seem to idolise their cricket superstars more than any other country and if IPL or ICL really want to be successful and if the megabucks invested is to be sustained then a genuine supporter base is essential.

I wish I was :(.

Anyways, I'd same with Pakistan.

Razzaq was getting smashed by Lahore Badshahs! I was enjoying it.

Ok, here's the question revised for a Pakistani fan. The Pentagular cup (which has just finished up), did you support Sindh, Punjab, Federal Areas, or Baluchistan? Say Shahid Afridi was your favorite player, but your from Punjab would you want Afridi to get out early and get beaten when given the ball or would you want Afridi to do really well even though that would mean that Punjab would lose.

Its a new concept. The initiators are taking a risk and want to see if this concept which is a big hit in England among other countries, would work in India. We have seen instances where supporters from a particular city or state tend to be more favorable towards players coming from their own states/cities (e.g. Kolkatta rooting for Ganguly, Bangalore roots for Dravid, Mumbai idolises Sachin). I am confident that they will get into this "city based support". When one of the teams win, the supporters of that city will boast that they are the best city/state in India, and this will lead to competition among other city/states where they want to win the next edition, and so on.

it has chances of succeeding....

That's right. I would support Shahid Afridi and not Punjab but Afridi plays for Sind and I am from Sind:p

yeah but Punjab is the best.

Like we rule, "chak de" you know best language ever = Punjabi.

You "Urdu" guys don't even have you're own word for "hello", lol.

I'm an Indian cricket fan, but I'm not really a fan of any particular state. Therefore, I'll just enjoy it for the cricket. And by default, Sachin :p.

When playing for the Indian team, Sachin and other stars are who I will always be rooting for.

But...

When the SuperKings are bowling to him, i'd hope to god that he gets out. :)

I sincerely hope that Lee, Clark, MacGill and Bracken get smashed in the Pura Cup final by Victoria's batsmen.

But I see the IPL as very different to the Aussie domestic scene; as the IPL are privately owned franchises and will likely have a rotating door of squads. They don't represent their local area so much as the company/consortium that owns them.

And by default, Sachin :p.

Same here at any situation.. Sachin gets duck.. Sachin gets 100.. it doesn't change my mind. :p

IPL.. the concept which I hated the most. Since it's yet to begin, I will wait for it to happen and lets see how far it's interesting. I seriously find no scope for youngsters there.

Say for instance, When ICL hunts and picks a Assam bowler(with unexposed scope to exposed scope)... And IPL bids and sign up many aged cricketers and already well exposed cricketers, I feel the former to have better intentions than the latter with only money making intentions.

So at any cost, I am not going to support even Sachin when comes to IPL alone. What are these players going to do in a T20 in particular? They are experienced strategic pro players and not just blind hitting players. But when comes to Indian National Cricket, it will be always a :happy cheering for the country and our players.

So my question to Indian fans is do you see yourselves caring more about your IPL team than your allegiance to Indian cricket and its superstars?

No, I don't care about IPL. After all it's just a money making business!

I already cheer for my Chandigarh Lions. I dont like anyone making runs or taking wickets against us. Nobody means nobody.

I will love if Binga bowls Tendliya for duck. :happy
