The first round of the 2007 Americas Championship has been completed with the West Indies and Bermuda each recording first up victories at the West Indies. In the opening game between the West Indies and Canada, the West Indies were sent in by Canada and it was all about one man with Devon Smith smashing the first century of the new format as he smashed the Canadian opponents and when he was helped with Wayne Blackman who was debut in the West Indies colours, they scored an 325 for 4 from the fifty overs. The Canadian attack couldn't do anything to stop the attack as Sunil Dhaniram was the only bowler who stopped the West Indies bowlers by getting 2/41 in his ten overs. Canada had no word to stop the aggression of the West Indies as they were skittled over for only 135 with Mervin Matthew taking four wickets in the result.

Bermuda had a tougher time in the victory over the USA at the Blarimont Sports Club. In the United States innings, Aijaz Ali top scored for the USA with 56, but regular lost of wickets couldn't do anything to help the team to what felt like a miserable 196 for 7. Bermuda chase got off to the worst start possible when they lost both of their openers before the score even reached double figures and with Khawaja Shuja on the ball with three wickets, the threat of an upset was there for the taking. But Dean Minors and Janeiro Tucker kept the pressure off the team as they took the opening win of the tournament with six wickets to spare to set up a juicy encounter at the Guyana National Stadium in three days time

The battle to take home the Americas Championship has seen the West Indies going two from two, while Canada defeated the United States in the battle of North America. In the match of the round, Bermuda got sent into bat after they lost the toss. For Bermuda, they couldn’t get anything going in the innings with only Lionel Cann in the lower order having any resistant from the batting as he scored 42 to get the team to 153. The West Indies wouldn't give their opponents an easy run to the victory with Floyd Reifer smacking 73 to give the West Indies a seven-wicket victory.

The other game saw Canada winning the toss and after the Americans got the first wicket of Shahzad Khan, Ashigh Bagai went on the attack as he scored a neat 95 to give the Canadians a score of 257 for 6 from their fifty overs. Khawaja Shuja on only his second match helped the team by taking three wickets in the innings. The reply for the Americans couldn't get off to a worse start with the team losing three wickets cheaply. Rashard Marshall did try and keep the Americans in the match with a half century from 83 balls but the chase for the target was too slow as they fell fifty-four runs short of the required target which gave Canada the Auty Cup which was in play for the first time in 12 years.
