Spain international Antonio Puerta has died after suffering a heart attack in his club side Sevilla's 4-1 win against Getafe on Saturday.

Defender Puerta, 22, collapsed in the first-half and medics prevented him from swallowing his tongue.

But he collapsed again after going off and was given cardiac resuscitation before being taken to hospital.

He was placed in intensive care and doctors said on Tuesday his condition had deteriorated before his death.

Thats very very sad news. I have actually heard of him, and bought him on FM. The loss of another sportstar, very sad. Sounds similar to the Foe incident. I heard he was in intensive care on SSN last night but this is very sad. RIP Antonio !!.

i thought he might get better being in hospital

i also bought him on FM lol

did a good job for me

Quite surprising seeing as he actually walked off the pitch. Just shows what could possibly happen even woth the fittest of athletes.

R.I.P.

I'd be lying if I said I knew a great deal about him, but at the age of 22 and having recently made his debut for Spain, it really is a cruel blow.

I saw a lot of him when watching Sevilla, had a great future ahead of him, such a shame.

RIP :(

He had a heart attack after he got to the dressing room.

RIP

It's a shame especially for someone so young and, apparently (I didn't see much of him), with a lot of potential.

Crap. R.I.P. How can a fit young athlete die of a heat attack at 22?

They were saying on Sky Sports News that it wasn't the sort of heart attack suffered by an older person, it was caused by problems that are not immediately obvious, not unless you actually look for them. Maybe it would be a good idea if sportsmen/women had themselves checked over every now and then, just to be safe.
