Well, I've got a dell mini laptop and am thinking to buy a 3G usb stick or in other words, data card. I've got Airtel broadband at the moment and I find it pretty pointless, for a laptop that is. With data card, I can surf the net anywhere in my house or when I'm travelling but the problem is, the reviews I've heard of data cards are very negative. So basically I wanted to ask that do any of you use data card and if you do, how well is it working for you? I've heard some good reviews about MTS Mblaze but then it's not as famous as other branded names like Vodafone or Tata.

This is just me, but from what I can gather from the network speed thread from forumers in the sub-continent, wouldn't a USB dongle for WiFi be terribly slower? :p

They are very good.

Purchase a Huawei unlocked data card and use any SIM card rather than purchasing a locked dongle from Airtel, Vodafone, etc. You missed out on MTNL's famous Rs. 4500/6 months (750/month) plan (unlimited internet on 3G speeds) as that is now discontinued in Delhi.

Their new half yearly 3G plan is Rs. 4999/6 months (100GB for 6 months). Not as good as the earlier one but still very good. The speeds in Delhi on it are around 3 MBPS.

BTW the 4500 plan is still active in Mumbai. If you are desperate for that plan and have some relatives in Mumbai, ask them purchase a MTNL Mumbai prepaid 3G SIM card with 4500 plan activated and ask them to send it to you. Roaming is absolutely free on prepaid so you won't be charged extra.

The new plan isn't really good. I guess you use vodafone usb stick, if so, is it good?

Ya the new plan isn't good at all, and so I suggested you the way of getting the old plan by getting a Mumbai SIM. Yes I use the Vodafone USB Stick K3765, it's pretty good and does the job very well for me. I love the white color as black has become too common now! :D
