I?ve found the following prices for Athlon XP at an authorized dealer in New Delhi as on May 10 2002:
Athlon XP 1600+ (1.4 GHz) with MSI or Gigabyte motherboard ~ Rs. 10,000 (includes AMD box heat sink and fan).
128 MB DDR SDRAM ~ Rs. 2200 - 2300
Duron 1 GHz with Gigabyte board ~ Rs. 6600
The price of motherboard does not vary much on the basis of onboard video. It?s more or less same whether the board has a 4x AGP slot or a Savage chipset based onboard video.
So if you want to go for a budget PC, one may go for a combination of Duron 1 GHz on MSI motherboard. This board supports up to Athlon XP 1900+ (that was the fastest available in the market). So you can upgrade it any time.
And if you want to see a Duron / Athlon perform, DDR SDRAM is very important, and it?s not too costly either.
