i have had some virus problems with my computer, and i had been running PC Tools AntiVirus. it didnt work very well at all.

i downloaded avg free, because i know it is reliable and i get a message when i try to update saying update failed. invalid update control CTF file.

any help?

i have tried a few of those things in the laptop thread, nothing worked.

on the winhelponline it says to delete the .ctf files. i do not have any in that folder

I would recommend Avast Free edition. It is free, does its job efficiently, does not clog up the system resources.

If you want to go paid, go for Eset Nod32, or Kaspersky. Both are incredibly good. Nod32 scores high coz it doesn't slow down the system, Kaspersky has arguably the best virus detections.
