Whilst I agree reps are only designed for fun, I think they can help say new members in finding the more helpful members. Doesn't matter to me whether they stay or not, but thats one way to look at it.

Its just not color... it also gives a message that "Ste should be ashamed of their behavior" if you keep your cursor on it.
This is just so MISLEADING ....
