1. North America and South America are actually classed as one continent
2. Australia IS a continent (sometimes referred to as Australasia)
3. Australia is ALSO a country. Like the USA it is made up of states. (South Australia, Queensland, Western Australia, New South Wales, Tasmania, Victoria, Northern Terrories and the Australian Capital Terrotary) It has it's own government, a Prime Minister, etc. It is the only continent that is also a country.

Well, you were wrong about Australia's status a country.

I never said Australia wasn't a continent. I was taught at school that the continent was called Australasia, I think thats just the case in the UK though.
