The veteran anchored the innings with a fluent 138 off 139 balls, keeping the scoreboard ticking through partnerships with Iyer, Mendis, and Shanaka. Ramesh Mendis added the late surge, smashing an unbeaten 80 as Basnahira closed on 291/8 — a total they would’ve gladly taken at the start.
Ratnapura’s chase started in disarray, and never quite recovered. Jasprit Bumrah ripped through the top order in a searing opening spell and returned at the death to finish with record-breaking figures of 7 for 46 — the best of the tournament so far, overtaking Rajitha’s earlier mark.
