Many pre-Slim PlayStation 3 owners are experiencing error 8001050F on their consoles and it's preventing players from logging into the PlayStation Network plus improperly displaying or corrupting trophy data.

Sony has posted on their Twitter page stating that 120GB and 250GB Slim models are working correctly and they are looking into the situation. Users who have converged at the NeoGAF forums theorize the error is due to the PS3's internal clock having a leap year-related bug and are advising everyone to not use the console for at least 24 hours in the hope that the problem fixes itself.

This is so annoying. I reset all the setting of my PS3 and still was unable to do anything. Browser works and can even watch movies but all my trophy data is gone and when I try to play SVR 2010 it just keep stuck at 10% trophy re-installing.

They better don't mess my system up.

Far out, this is annoyin! I was going to play Heavy Rain, but now it's getting too late to play due to school. Hope they fix it within the next 30 mins.

OH NOEZZ TEH PS3s R BROKEZZZZ XBOXEZZ R TEH PWNZORZZZZ.
Would've expected Microsoft to completely bugger up 360s than to see that :p

It wont even let me play mw2 offline ! The campain mode!

Just don't try, Sony have said it may delete data. Gonna have to just leave the PS3 off until they fix it.

Great shout, won't bother. Massively impressed with the Heavy Rain Demo, may purchase it :P

Too late, all my data is gone :facepalm

████, not going to risk checking mine. Sony have said they should have it fixed within 24 hours from when the problem occured (Some time last night I believe).

I had just done firmware upgrade and thought I had suffered one of famous firmware update failure. Did all ridiculous things as well. Its national holiday today so Sony's office was also closed and after everything was gone decided to finally search on net and found its issue with everyone.

And the fact that Sony's Playstation website is down doesn't help matters (or at least it was when I checked)

We are aware that the internal clock functionality in the PS3 units other than the slim model, recognized the year 2010 as a leap year. Having the internal clock date change from February 29 to March 1 (both GMT), we have verified that the symptoms are now resolved and that users are able to use their PS3 normally.

If the time displayed on the XMB is still incorrect, users are able to adjust time settings manually or via the internet. If we have new information, we will update you through the PlayStation.Blog or PlayStation.com.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused

All this because of a leap year.
