I'm acquiring expressions of interest for a fantasy comp run via Cricket 2005, like those run by myself squiz and Radaga both here and at CricketCentral/SportsPLUS in the past. To outline how this works:

- A specified number of teams register
- Members choose home grounds- these determine the conditions your team will play its home games in (ie. Kolkata may have predominantly dusty pitches, and hence you may use early draft picks on class spinners) and determine the makeup of your squad.
- A draft is held in which teams select players from any of the squads in the game in rounds of first one pick at a time and then more until everyone has a squad of around 15
- A trade period is held in which teams can exchange players
- I post fixtures, matches begin, teams are submitted late in the week and matches simulated by me on weekends
- Finals, winner and all the obvious stuff

To elaborate on the simulation aspect- before the draft begins I'd publish my list of the stats given for the players in Cricket 2005 (batting/bowling), which determine how they perform in the game. When the squads are picked, I use the squad editor to put your players together by overwriting one of the default squads in the game. After the trading finishes and the season starts, I use the autoplay function to simulate games and post the results in match threads here. Results are certainly far from random, someone who selects their team wisely and plays in suitable conditions will win the vast majority of the time, as demonstrated by previous successful competitions I have run.

At the moment, I'm not promising anything and just looking for expressions of interest in participating. Bear in mind that these leagues run over several months, and it is desirable that you be online at least once every couple of days during the draft period (drafting squads of 15+ takes a long time if people don't visit frequently as the draft cannot continue until the next person picks). I'm not interested in anyone that'll lose interest and not bother to post picks or post their teams after a few days/weeks, although I don't anticipate this being a problem as even at 100 member forums interest was high enough to support a competition.

In summary:
Competition run through simulating games in Cricket 2005, consists of a draft to select squads of players and then several months of weekly league games. If you can be online once every couple of days at a minimum during the draft and weekly during the games period, and enjoy doing this kind of thing, post in this thread with a team name and email address. If it goes ahead, I'll go through this thread in order to get whatever number of teams I need.

Thanks,
Brad

Very very good idea Brad.
I like that way you told me on MSN how that Cricsim leagues only consist of forum members classed into a couple of types and all having identical averages based on that and it's successful because people like seeing their virtual selves do stuff but it's essentially random.
However because of the nature how Cricket 2005 is, this fantasy cricket competition you are setting up will be far more realistic than its counterparts. (purely and not limited to the fact that there are a heap of options regarding the stats of individual players and that the Cricket 2005 autoplaying engine is superb).
I agree, this is an exceptional idea from you Brad and I hopefully from many will agree. It will provide a very accurate and enjoyable cricket gaming experience for all.

To add to that- you're going to be drafting in competition with say 7 other teams. You want to get a squad of quality players, obviously- but as in real life they're in very limited supply, rather than everyone being identical like Cricsim. I'll post the top batsmen, Cricket 2005 stats-wise:

Code:
98 Tendulkar
96 Hayden
94 Ponting
94 Vaughan
94 Dravid
94 Lara
94 Flower
92 Langer
92 Inzamam
92	90	Kallis
92 Yousuf Youhana
As you can see, there's 11 batsmen rated 92 or above (basically the elite players). You then get a few more with 90 ratings that are a class below those players, and so on. Now, you might say you can get two of those players with your first two picks before they're gone- but then you're not going to have top class bowlers to go with them. The key is to get the most balanced squad you can, not an easy thing to do and you'll see in the league games that the best squads will rise to the top.

Count me in Brad.
The ones in the past have been good, i'm looking forward to it :)

2 more ideally, 8 is perfect- in the meantime stats have been posted in the other topic

post in this thread with a team name and email address.
Guess the first post was a bit long and you'd all lost interest by that point, assuming you're definites it'd be handy if you'd confirm by posting that in this topic and/or PMing me.

That's 8, new registrations can be posted but possibly not accepted depending on confirmations from the people above

I've posted the rules/details in the topic below
