Google will introduce a spreadsheet program, continuing the internet search leader's expansion into territory long dominated by Microsoft.

Although it's still considered a work in progress, Google's online spreadsheet will offer consumers and businesses a free alternative to Microsoft's Excel application a product typically sold as part of the Office software suite that has been a steady moneymaker for years.

Wow what won't google get into. Next thing we know we've be seeing google Anti Virus and Firewall ;)
Should be interesting anyway, I'll probably give it a go even though I don't use spreadsheets that much.

I remember reading they were doing one. But google is starting to get a rep where all their stuff are betas and are never released.

I don't see why Google would be getting into this. I probably won't use it, because Excel does the task for me.

It's probably just a joke because the news was broken on the 06/06/2006.

Remember all those April Fools jokes Google pulled? I think it's the same idea this time.

Nah I'm sure google is releasing a beta for it shortly :p If not well they have fulled the SMH and cnet along with others that I didn't go to.

You must be correct Duff - Google have pulled the page down - Not Found. The whole presentation sounds kind of sarcastic anyway.

If it was actually gonna be released, I would use it if it was compatible with Excel. At the moment I use OpenOffice, coz I really cannot be bothered to pay ?100 for Microsoft Office when I can use OpenOffice for free. It might not be so good, but it works.

EDIT: Followed the wrong link - this page is nonexistent.

I think their stated goal is to make their programs as feature rich and user friendly (some would say "perfect") as possible before releasing them...

And its just a matter of nomenclature which doesn't make an iota of difference as to how people use these services, anyway.
