Hey,

I dont why, but im not able to hear defualt Windows XP sounds, for e.g, the sound of an alarm, or a beep, and when someone comes online on msn messenger.

I am able to play MP3's and Movies files without any problem though.

I checked the control panel and it says everything is enabled and is working fine.

I dont know what is problem is and how to fix it.

Need help.

**Initially i wasnt able to play MP3's also until i enabled the option to download codecs automatically in WMP's option screen.

something may be wrong with the sound settings...
go to the control panel, and open 'sounds and audio devices'
in that, go to the 'sounds' tab...

in the sound scheme, select windows default...

plz try, this might help...

you might also check your volume control, and check if the wave output level is okay...
if it is too low, u should increase it...

Checked the sound and volume settings. Everythng is ok.

And regarding the 'sound scheme', i have selected 'windows default', but i cant preview the sound of a particular event. The play button is grayed out.

Click start>run

Type dxdiag.

Check the sound tab, run the tests and see if everything is working here.

What's your default output device? It's not been changed to SPDIF when you are using speakers has it?

Maybe somehow those sound files got deleted from your computer?

They are there in the 'C:\WINDOWS\Media' folder.

I dont know if b'coz of the problem i'm having but i cant even hear sounds when i play 'Stick Cricket' and/or when i connect by Nokia phone to my PC.

I think its a registry problem, or maybe even codecs.

I dont know how to fix it.

Goto Sound and Audio Devices in Control Panel and click the Audio tab. You can select your default output device, depending on your PC spec you may or may not have more than one option there.
