Help me understand why this game is worth BOTHERING ABOUT!

Dear All

I've read this forum now for a couple of years and I am amazed and impressed at the time, talent and skill that people throw in the game. But I ask in all sincerity: why bother?

My point is this: the gameplay is so lame as to be very frustrating. I don't bat in the game, I prefer to bowl (always have). And the bowling experience is just terrible! Do ANY of the AI patches address any of these really irritating points

1) Want to get a wicket: Have Shane Warne bowl a slow big spinning leg break full length on leg stump. The short leg will pluck the ball right off the face of the bat almost EVERY time.

2) Want to get a wicket: Have any medium fast bowler bowl a slow delivery 1/2 of the wy down the pitch. Two bounces and clean bowled!

3) Play and miss? What is that? Maybe twice in a whole innings will anyone play and miss

4) Nothing, and I mean NOTHING works when bowling tactically. None of the developers must have played the game. For example
a) Batman plays forward? so give him a bouncer of two to put him on the back foot then slip in the fast yorker. That will balst out most #10, #11's. Not in this game
b) Batsman doing well? Slip him the fast, wide half volley and look for the slip catch. Theyt never fall for it!
c) Have you rattled the batsman by hitting the helmet. They NEVER play tentative afterwards!

Is the game playable (bowling) in any way? How do you find this at all tolerable?

Thanks

Some good points there, but it's really the most realistic game out there as BLIC is more of a fun game with less realism.

Well ya i agree with you mmsood but what can we do :( we gotta play something.. We can only hope EA putting real effort in their work which will probably be in 3000!

Hmmm, maybe EA thought no one ever used the bowling on the game. I certainly don't because I found it to easy to bowl them out & they don't really seem to make runs while I couldn't really be arsed giving them runs, but that's just me.

True, Bowling is so easy in the game that u can bowl out on very low scores and even i dont likes to bowl in game, just bat and bat

Dude, its a video game for cryin' out loud.
Enjoy it for what it is. if not, go outside and play the real thing.

It's a difference in opinion, I play this game because I love cricket, and this is a hell of a lot more realistic than BLIC. If your finding it too easy, then put it on hard or download the harder difficulty level.

Partly the challenge and partly because it's all there is.
Everyone on this forum (I think) loves cricket but as some of us are never going to play for our national team cricket games give us the chance to be superstars and play test series.
As to whether c2k5 is any better or any worse than other cricket games I think there are two things. Firstly our expectations get higher with each game, particularly when we see how much the ProEv and FIFA series have advanced, and secondly no-one here is ever going to be completely happy with anything EA or Codies produce.
With regard to why I, for example, who have probably spent less than 10 hours playing c2k5 in total, spend many many more hours cracking bytes, writing editors and fixing bugs in said editors I can honestly say that I do it because I enjoy the challenge.
I also enjoy seeing how my work can help enhance the playing experience of people who don't find the game as unplayable as me.
That said I also appreciate very much the work of others. I think it adds an incredible level of realism to have the right pitch ads, stumps, kits etc. On top of that we have been fantastically lucky on c2k5 to have the best graphics maker I personally have ever seen in cricket gaming making bats for us. I haven't played c2k5 for about 8 months but I will definitely crack it open again when the 4GB bat pack v2 is released just to experience the quality of BF's bats.

Also as someone who enjoys bowling more than batting I agree with you entirely about the points you are making although the response to the first two is simply don't bowl those deliveries. We have been shouting for ages about play and miss and I do hope that this is finally something Codies will be addressing in BLIC2007.
No disrespect to the AI patchers here but I tend to find that, as most people prefer batting to bowling, the AI patches tend to reflect that and improve the batting experience more than the bowling experience.
Anyhow nice that you have de-lurked after two years and interesting to hear your views.

Dear Barmy

Thanks for your carefully considered reply. I can fully see the lure of coding and making improvements and as I said before I am AMAZED by the talent shown on this board.

I've been reflecting on my post for a couple of days and am really sincere in my sentiments. If one looks at other game franchises (with more $ behind them) they are astounding. The "Madden" series of American Football games just gets better and better. I feel the EA (and Codies) know we are weaker market (in $ terms) and are just throwing us a bone. I am astounded that EA haven't released one patch for this game. I can't even play an English domestic season because of the day timing bug (has this been fixed yet).

Like many of you I'm sure, I live and breathe cricket, and live in a country where it isn't widely supported. My fantasy (and it still IS a fantasy) is that I can vicariously live the game at the ball-by-ball level because I don't have access to it as a spectator. But with EA and Codies churning out poor facsimilies of the game, it just doesn't add up to a good experience.

I have been racking my brains on how to address this. How do we let the developers know that this isn't good enough?

Just my two-pennorth,

mmsood

All I would say is that the re-emergence of Codemasters offers the best chance of this imo. As far as EA are concerned cricket is a poor cousin and a cobbled, slightly improved game is released every 18 months. Codies though have given us a extraordinary level of input into their two games. From the list of features announced and interviews given it really seems that Codies have listened to the feedback from c2k5 and endeavoured to improve. They are also in regular and positive communication with us (always responding to e-mails etc) whereas EA contact us at their conveniene and ignore questions they don't want to answer.
I really hope that BLIC2007 is a game the cricket community can be proud of; certainly the introduction of online play will solve at a stroke many of the problems of computer AI/pacing etc as we will be able to play other cricket fans from across the world.
No doubt BLIC2007 will not be perfect but I am more optimistic than I have been for a long time about the new game.

G'day mate

Just a few answers to you're points...

1) Most patches I have played with have stopped this happening but the easy solution is to simply not bowl there, they wont get caught at bat pad (or bowled) if the ball isn't there to be defended away.

2) Same answer as point 1, don't use that delivery to get wickets if it bugs you :)

3) Use Boss's current patch, The AI will play and miss numerous deliveries trying to both defend and attack

4) Again I think Boss's new patch is the way to go, Just the other day playing a match between Pakistan and South Africa using Ntini I trapped Younis Khan plumb LBW after bowling 4 leg cutters outside off then a fast full inswinger on middle stump, looked very realistic

Both point's a and b apply to my reply above but unfortunately I don't really think c has been looked at in much detail (it should though)

So yeah, there are patches out there that in my opinion can give a very enjoyable experience. If you still aren't satisfied then you can always pray that the next BLIC and EA games are 10 times better then they are now or wait for TCP :) Or alternatively like Fanirama said, go out and play the real thing (it's way better :D )

:cheers

hey Cricket 60 which Boss's patch are you using? V6 or V7?
V7 is the better my friend :)

also Yes Cricket 05 isn't the best game ever but it is the best cricket game and if people keep making patches it makes it even better.

I find it enjoyable and I think most people here do!
